Do you know if it is a new account, or have they reduced the bonus?
They don't bother with Issue numbers, they just fix the bonus rate according to the date you opened the account. So new rates are only for new customers.
I rang them the other day and check the rates of interest. I have three accounts, for different funds. The girl on the phone got quite stroppy and said under the rules and regs I should only have one account.
Somewhere in the small print it's always said that they only pay bonus on one account.

But their application form is allergic to my PC, so I've never managed to open a second account to find out whether they enforce it.
"It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis

    allergic to my PC,

I like that phrase, it made me laugh and applies to lots of stuff that comes my way. I am going to pinch it.

I am sure at the beginning of the year (January is the anniversary date), they wrote to each separate account ! I will see what happens next year.

Why is this account not mentioned in Martin's Instant Access Savings page? It gives 2.35, (incl 0.7 bonus,) and has unlimited withdrawals

I don't know why Martin hasn't mentioned it.

However, I notice a deposit by debit card takes 2 days to show up and 9 days by bank transfer. I hope this is just for initial deposit, and once the account is up and running it will be instant transfers.

    Under my mattress? :rotfl:

Sorry I am not being helpful. There really isn't much around to gain any interest. You will do marginally better for locked away, and you will do better than most as a non-taxpayer.

    See what other say.

    You can do
    1. £20Kish in a Santander 123
    2. £15K in Lloyds Vantage (3 accounts)
    3. £15K in BoS Vantage (again, 3 accounts)
all paying 3% AER at present. All instant access since they are current accounts.

NB. Do you really need instant access to £50K? You might get a bit more if you can afford to lock some of it away for a year or so.
  • Thanks for your replies. Can lock away £50 for max.1 year. Any further advice.

You'll be hard pushed to find anything that pays more than 3% on a 12 month fix.

If you have the time and inclination, you could play about with drip-feeding Regular Savers - that way you can squeeze out a few more pennies though it could get tedious because the amount you can deposit is limited.

A list of best Reg Savers is in the first post of this thread
