Santander seems to be the last 3.00% bonus account on a £1 saving. Considering what happening in Spain would anyone recommeded them?

Or would it perhaps be more sensible to go for Derbyshires 2.90%.
What does anyone think? For .10% interest I want to make the best descision.

Santander UK is fully regulated by the FSA and protected by the FSCS, and is also supposed to be ring-fenced from its Spanish operations.
I would personally go with the 3% from Santander for the bit of extra interest.

Agree. Up to £85K anything in Santander UK (incl Cahoot etc) is as safe as it is in any other bank that offers FSCS protection.
  • Surprised MSE haven't yet highlighted this weeks updated offering from LloydsTSB,...

4% on up to 6k in their classic current account until October 2013. All you need is two direct debits on the account (probably only at the outset, then you can move them to another account if you want to), and you need to pay in £1k a month (same day transfer in and out will suffice).

So, 4% gross interest and instant access to your money. You're allowed up to three of these classic accounts paying 4% interest, so that gives you the ability to save 18k at 4% - certainly one of the best 'savings' rates around.

A number of threads about this, so well "highlighted".

Threads, yes. However the main MSE advice pages relating to Savings and Banking don't make mention of the Lloyds offer at all and are still stating the best 'easy access' savings account as the Post Office at 2.95%!

    Vantage is a CURRENT account.

    Well I never

That'll be no good for instant access savings then!

Why not? You can't get more "instant access" than a current account!

Plenty of MSEers are using them purely for savings purposes, though.

Can you open a 2nd & third 'classic vantage 4% account' without actually visiting one of their branches?

Just went to Santander to open a 3% eSaver. Too late already!
