£80000 to save short (ish) term. Already have an account with Coventry BS paying 3.17% so looking for the next best, which appears to be Derbyshire BS at 3.06%, as it offers unlim withdrawals without penalty). Likely to need the cash within the year hence not going for a 1 year saver.
Anyone had any experience with this institution? With such a large amount, I'm skeptical about internet savers but that is where the best rates are at.

Have you used your ISA allowance of £5640 upo? If not then you may consider this account which is an ISA, pays 3.5% and allows unlimited withdrawals:

Hi. Yes, ISA allowance used already.0 -
Hi. Yes, ISA allowance used already.
In that case ING at 3.1% is the next best:

Derbyshire BS is OK too. No need to worry since your deposit would be covered upto 85k by the FSCS.0 -

Cool, thanks.
Yeah, saw the ING one but it's not protected by the UK FSCS so for the sake of 0.04%, I'll stick with one that is!0 -
Tried to open a Derbyshire BS account last week but failed as they wanted paper "Name I/D" that I couldn't provide: Don't get state benefit, don't get a pension, can't provide an "original" current account statement.
Opened the ING one instead which was done over the phone.
I've had an ING account before and the system recognized me and refused to let me open it on-line, but no real trouble on the phone, just that they have to read out all the T&C's so you can agree to them!0 -

But don't they give you a lousy rate if you are an existing customer?Thank you for reading this message.0 -

So did you get round it by doing it on the phone rather than online, or was your previous account more than 6 months ago?Thank you for reading this message.0

It's just that the system disables your login when you close your last account but still remembers you (You can checkout, but you can never leave....). Then you have to phone in to get things unlocked again and they won't just reactivate your login and let you apply on-line.
They've given me the same customer I/D I had before but it doesn't work until they post me a new password which they won't do until they've received the initial deposit which has to be by cheque.
After that you can do everything on-line or by phone banking.0 -
matthewbpt wrote: »What do you guys think of the new Sainsbury's eSaver Special (www dot sainsburysbank dot co dot uk/savings/sav_esaverspecial_skip.shtml) it's offering 2.9% AER, which is lower than a lot of other savings accounts available now, but it's a "clean" rate, so the rate isn't going to drop after an introductory 12 month period. I'm thinking it'll be worth opening this one now while they have the offer, but also open another with a higher rate at a different bank, so I can move the money into this one after the bonus rate expires ...
Mmm, it didn't last long, it's now down 2.7% for new investors. If you opened before 12th May though it stays at 2.9%. Strangely Sainsbury's don't say 'NEW LOWER RATE' on their website, weird that......0
