When did the increased interest rate appear in the app? I opened an account via the app yesterday and stuck £500 in. This morning the interest rate still shows as 1.64%. 

Did you fund the account late in the day? Can only think that they check eligibility balance at, say,16:30 and you've added funds after the cut-off?

Yes I opened it last night. Did check the T&Cs. Probably the words ‘closing balance’ mean 4.30 then. I will check again tomorrow.

I couldn’t find a way to apply for this account in the app but was able to apply via the link you posted, thanks.

I funded the account from my existing Skipton Base Rate Tracker, which I was able to close in the process. Very easy and straightforward.

I took all but £1 out of that yonks ago when it got so uncompetitive. It was really good for a short time until it fell far behind.
