    Cleared out Chip & Tandem.
Welcome Santander, 30 seconds from sending to showing in my account.
    Not to bad.
    Me to.
Apologies if it's been asked before. But doesn't anyone know what date is the monthly interest option is paid on?
From the account T&Cs... "We’ll pay the interest on the monthly or yearly anniversary of the day you opened the account."

So I guess we all close the previous issue saver now with Santander ? No point having that one now , do we send them a secure message to close it ?
I like to leave mine open as an audit trail in case I need to sanity check my tax return as Santander didn't produce a tax certificate for my accounts and I had to rely on the annual statements instead.
If you call them and ask for a certificate of interest, they will send one to you. They are pretty much the last of the savings institutions to be ready though.

Secure message facility long gone. Is a chatbot now. I have yet to have a positive experience with 'Sandi'. Trying to close the EA Issue 1 first of all it replied about OTPs then at my second attempt made an equally irrelevant response about maturity dates. As ever I ended up asking for a human. First James. Now on to Megan who seems to have gone off for a break! Wastes so much time compared to secure messaging. Progress eh!

Given that AI and ChatGPT are very much the flavour of the year I've been shocked at how universally terrible banking chatbots seem to be. I had one, can't remember which bank, that failed to respond sensibly to "Close Account". It just listed every topic from their FAQ that had "account" in it. I'd already read the FAQ and it didn't cover how to close an account.
  • Santander will eventually close accounts with 0 balance anyway.

On the web site choose 'Help & contact us' on the right and then choose 'Close my account' for a surprisingly useful chatbot
I closed my Issue 1 and monthly saver this morning. Monthly saver gone already
You must have the magic touch! Despite selecting 'Close account' which clearly showed at the top of the chat window I first got something about OTPs then at the second attempt something equally irrelevant about maturity dates. Asked for a human after 8 minutes. Took a further 32 minutes to get to the point of my request being actioned.

If only someone could invent a system where you logon and send a message in a secure way so you are only attached to the device for about a minute.

Like @ColdIron, I asked Sandi this morning to close my old esaver. I started with typing "close account" and had given the instruction in less than 30 seconds. The old esaver has vanished now, remaining balanc and 1p interest transferred to the new esaver. Not quite as good as closing a Halifax savings account IMO but excellent service.

    Surprisingly easy
First it listed the accounts to close, the monthly saver (with £0 balance) wasn't on the list so I entered the account number, then my address and where I wanted the residual interest to go
You can only close 1 account at a time and once the MS was done I went through again for the easy access issue 1 which was on the list and just clicked the relevant options and was done
I don't usually like chatbots but this worked well

I never bother closing old accounts. If they made it easy with a "close account" button I would.
Ex Sg27 (long forgotten log in details)

Massive thank you to those on the long since defunct Matched Betting board.

So is the 5.08% okay and will still work out as 5.20% over the course of a year?
