Santander limited edition easy access - 5.20% (for 12 months)...

    https://www.santander.co.uk/personal/savings-and-investments/savings/easy-access-saver

Only available until 17th September, or sooner if it sells out.
Using the app, application process for this account took about 15 seconds.

EDIT : Email confirmation of opened account details 2 minutes later.

Dont know if you noticed - the confirmation email has an incorrect KPI document attached, for an easy access saver with a rate of 2.7-something. I have ignored this, as the account correctly shows 5.2% (I have chosen annual interest payment).
    Mine showed 5.2%

    Great rate.

Would it preclude a current account switching bonus if they start offering one again?

Very much doubt that it would. Switching is about current accounts. I have never seen any switch offer T&Cs which mentioned savings accounts.

    Great rate!

However, after my last experience with Santander (when they launched their market leading (at the time)) I won't be opening an account with them this time.

It is all very well it being described as "easy access", but my experience of trying to withdraw my money (back into the same current account that funded the savings account) resulted in hours of repeated phone calls when Santander consistently locked and blocked access to the savings account. One time, I was on hold for 40 minutes waiting to speak to an "advisor" only to then be connected and immediately cut off by them. The old adage "time is money" is critical for me here.

I hope that ~12 months on that Santander have improved their systems for those who do partake in this undoubtedly great, marketing leading rate!

I have the Santander regular saver which is a fixed 5%. I'll now reduce the balance to £1 but not close it and move the rest into the easy access account.

Thanks. The way it's worded here suggests you're right: "you and everyone named on the account in question mustn't have already used a switcher offer on any of our accounts".

Time to open a new account!

Why bother even leaving £1 in there?

I have been a Santander customer for over a decade and I can cope with their occasional, annoying, blocking of payments.

If you are new to Santander, and/or have no other accounts with them, I agree, it might not be the best place for savings that you want to regularly shift larger sums about. You might be better served at the likes of Chip or Tandem - though you can always be caught by random fraud checks.

Santander easy access issue 3 account opened and funds from limited saver issue 2 moved over. Many thanks for the alert about this.

Great rate from Santander but I'm scarred by their overzealousness when it comes to blocking transfers out of the account so I'll be giving it a miss.

I was thinking of doing this so that I don't get the interest paid until the next tax year, but it would only be minimal so I might close it completely and be done with it
