Although the Welcome to Newbury account is no longer competitive it may be worth opening one up if you aren't currently a member of Newbury BS to get a foot in the door so to speak.
I looked, but minimum seemed to be £50.
Not that interested 🤣2 -
The initial deposit is £50 minimum but they'll let you reduce the balance down to £1 once opened. Plus both their Welcome to Newbury account and more notably their Existing Members account (currently 3.75%) have been very competitive in the past so I'd say it would be worth getting in whilst you can.
- The minimum opening and operating balance is £50.
Bold emphasis mine.
Conflicting messages within their site and application process:
Opened one anyway as I recall this society offering decent rates in the past, linked to local postcodes.
Not made deposit yet as, again, conflicting information.
Info states that I will receive a secure message when ok to deposit funds.
Accessing MyAccountPortal, it appears that I could deposit now, if I want to.0 -

With the minimum balance for me the fact that it states that it states that it pays a reduced interest rate if the balance falls below £50 suggests to me that you should be able reduce the balance to below £50, similar to the Monmouthshire Premium Instant account (NLA), which can now be kept below £25k despite that being the minimum balance.
It could also simply be a quirk of Newbury's technical systems, similar to Scottish Widows, which has let me reduce the balance on their instant saver to £1 despite it having a minimum balance of £100.1 -
