I can't seem to see this mentioned anywhere but Newbury BS have now opened their savings accounts up to new customers who live in England and Wales once again.

Although the Welcome to Newbury account is no longer competitive it may be worth opening one up if you aren't currently a member of Newbury BS to get a foot in the door so to speak.
Thankyou for drawing attention to this. Account just registered.
    Which one?

I looked, but minimum seemed to be £50.

    Not that interested 🤣
The initial deposit is £50 minimum but they'll let you reduce the balance down to £1 once opened. Plus both their Welcome to Newbury account and more notably their Existing Members account (currently 3.75%) have been very competitive in the past so I'd say it would be worth getting in whilst you can.

Interesting as their website clearly states:

    • The minimum opening and operating balance is £50.

    Bold emphasis mine.

Conflicting messages within their site and application process:

Opened one anyway as I recall this society offering decent rates in the past, linked to local postcodes.

Not made deposit yet as, again, conflicting information.

Info states that I will receive a secure message when ok to deposit funds.

Accessing MyAccountPortal, it appears that I could deposit now, if I want to.

I seem to recall I made my initial deposit as soon as I got the account details and I was able to fund the account ok.

With the minimum balance for me the fact that it states that it states that it pays a reduced interest rate if the balance falls below £50 suggests to me that you should be able reduce the balance to below £50, similar to the Monmouthshire Premium Instant account (NLA), which can now be kept below £25k despite that being the minimum balance.

It could also simply be a quirk of Newbury's technical systems, similar to Scottish Widows, which has let me reduce the balance on their instant saver to £1 despite it having a minimum balance of £100.

Log into online banking then click "View account". I don't have the app so I couldn't tell you how to view it in the app.
