    Exactly

it's all very well banks tell you to 'just give us a call' - if you want to listen to Green Sleeves for 45 minutes

This was exactly my experience with Santander - and exactly the same for my wife's accounts at the same time so double the trouble. Very very frustrating and I will never open an account with them again!

Any other banks/building societies/financial institutions tell you this too? Maybe others forumites can chime in also.

BTW Shawbrook you don't need to have the latest issue to get the high rate of interest - I have Issue 33. AFAIK it needs to be Issue 30 or above. You do need min of £1000 to earn it though.

I can add Barclays to that list. Having phoned to unblock a first-time external payment to a new account, I told them I needed to make further payments and asked if they could make note of this so it wouldn't happen again and I was told that wouldn't be possible.

The person in the FT article who gave the recommendation to 'call ahead' before either making or receiving unusual desposits is seemingly out of touch with how banks operate.

The ft newspaper should stop interviewing staff at resolver that spread urban myths!

For some banks fraudsters would need to impersonate my voice. E.g. Halifax. Good luck with that fraudsters!
