If your Amazon account was closed by them for some reason, you could lose your credit.
As I have no intention to give them any reason for closing my account, that's not an issue for me. If they, against all expectation, would close my account for no reason, I would not hesitate to take them to court for any money, incl. gift card money, they owe me.

I doubt many people will worry about the effect of inflation on what is a free gift voucher!!

We might treat ourselves to some frivolities with the vouchers, but if they expire before we've spent them all, so be it.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

Well, a money saving expert would worry about inflation.

Frivolities on Amazon? They sell millions of everyday items.

    I'm outa this discussion now.

Seashell - I avoided any issues by changing my sole amazon account to a joint account. This can be done quickly online. Then both amazon vouchers redeemed by myself and my OH go into the same joint account. I realise this may not suit all couples.

My annual Amazon spend leaves me in no doubt I'll get through these vouchers in well under 10 years, but if I didn't buy much from Amazon, then I have plenty of friends and family who have Amazon wishlists for whom I could buy gifts.

It's OK....if it looks like the vouchers might expire before we've spent them all, i'm just going to buy Prosecco with any leftovers!!!!

Just be careful everyone, I've heard/read reports about peoples accounts being blocked/closed for making too many returns. So if you're suddenly buying £100's of stuff, you may be more likely to have to return stuff.

Mine will all be gone within days of receiving them all. I need a new shed
  • As a warning, I have had my accounts blocked/closed and am no longer welcome to bank with Santander. I was not given much information other than that I had "abused" the referral system which was spotted by the applications team. Today I received a letter giving me 28 days to repay overdraft balances (already done) and confirming the withdrawal of Santander banking services for me.

I made 4 claims in respect of switches in (of which I received 2 vouchers to date) and have not received any payments in respect of referrals. I had 2 switches in pending but these were never claimed. To be absolutely clear, I did not refer myself, refer more than 5 people, or false people or anything like that. But I can only assume they spotted something and took a hardball approach; whether they will be linking the chain I do not know.

I cannot be bothered pursuing this matter further, but just wanted to warn people in case anyone else finds their banking suspended.

Hmmm interesting.....I was going to switch three or four accounts into my existing account but might just go with the one for now. Wouldn’t it be worth asking them in what way you abused the referral system as it doesn’t sound as though you’ve done anything wrong? Seems from this thread a fair few have done multiple switches like yourself but not received any letter (as yet anyway).

They were not forthcoming on the phone; only that I was clearly switching purely for bonuses and this was abuse. However, yes, it seems very odd to me and I haven't yet heard of anyone else being affected. I am checking with Experian/Equifax/Callctedit & CIFAS in case there are any markers that might explain this beyond the referrals, simply because being effectively banned from a bank has me a little spooked.

Anyway, I hope no-one else is affected but thought it worth posting my experience in case.

Hopefully no-one else has any issues.
