    It`s a Landis + Gyr E470 smets 2 meter . i think the model number is ZCXS310HS2.2 .
5 digit number display and no decimal point.

I have the same meter. Not currently updated to smets 2, more like smets 1 and a bit, but anyway this is reading and not sending so...

Mine appear to have 6 digits and 1 decimal place (I just went and looked!).

All current meters are pretty much down to programming as to what they read and display. Yours could have been programmed wrong. Have you checked the read on the companies web site in case they are reading it differently?

Displays are confusing and reading whatever for a little while means nothing as kW and kwh are different things.

I am high usage(ish, not very high but people around here seem to disagree!) 3 bedroom, 2 person household and use 15-18 units a day (heating/water is gas so you would expect to use more than this if you used either).

You could post a photo of the meter just to make sure we agree it has no decimal place. Feel free to blank out the serial etc.

Arguing they progreammed it wrong will be hard as they resist doing anything. However they should be able to check this remotely if you get someobne who has a clue! Try a web based team and ask this direct, if you state your units a day and property size and heating/water use then the good people should be able to see. However some people and usually the ones you phone have no clue what are appropriate amounts of anything!
  • My apologies but how do I upload a photo? I`m not that savvy on computer stuff.

Images have to be uploaded to a third party image hosting site and you put the link to the image in your post.

As you are a new user, you may find that you are banned from putting external links in your post.
  • Thank you PennineAcute , you are correct and the site will not allow me to upload any links.
Carrot007 are you suggesting I speak to Eon using web chat rather than phoning them? I have now used 87.03 Kwh today and still rising!! My normal usage is around 5Kwh per day due to not being in the property due to work most of the time.
  • Have you tried turning EVERYTHING off? Even for 5-10mins? Should be using nothing then...
  • Hi bufferz, I did that when I was on the phone to E.ON this afternoon. Turned the power off at the main fuse box so had no power coming into the property but the meter advanced 6Kwh during the 45minute phone call.

Mine is the only smart meter in the meter cupboard so yes it`s mine but I wish it wasn`t .
My smart meter has no keypad , only 2 buttons and when I see the reading there is no decimal point .

Providing E.on have changed the right meter ! Wrong meters in communal cupboards are not unknown.

It is always good when someone else - like Carrot007 - can say "I've got one of those" then you have something to compare with.

The only E470 I could find online was the prepayment version - hence my earlier post.

It is looking like the meter has been programmed wrongly. Hopefully E'on's web chat will enable it to be sorted. It should be a simple correction as its a SMETS2 but we will see.

Let us known how you get on.

OK then stop using the phone, arguing with someone who doesn't understand the problem is a waste of time - send them a letter (recorded delivery) & e-mail marked complaint and explain that the meter is incrementing even when the main power switch is turned off.

Make sure that you are recording your meter readings daily so that you've got a record of what it's doing and do as has been suggested and look at your on-line account to see what info the meter is sending back to the supplier.

BTW you can send a link but you have to corrupt it - instead of www. put www dot (use the word dot) and then the rest of the address. It wont be recognised as a link and we can then subsitute the word dot with an actual dot
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
  • Hi all, thank you for your replies. I have been taking readings most of the night and have photos aswell. I am currently at work and left home at 0530, the same time as yesterday but in those 24hrs I have supposedly used 101Kwh!

Received a text today saying the smart meter team will be visiting Tuesday morning , I never requested this as the phone operator I spoke to yesterday wanted me to pay £65 up front for this .
After speaking to the smart meter team this morning they have assured me there is no cost involved to myself but i will be monitoring my bank account!

I will be taking a reading when I get home this evening to see what has been used and will update here. There is no one in the flat and the only appliance left turned on is the fridge freezer.

Thanks again for the help and advice given so far, it is appreciated

Isn't there an Eon representative who usually posts on the boards?

It might be worth speaking to him.

Just checked, his name is E.ON Company Representative: Malc

It might be worth sending him a private message linked to this thread.

    Good luck
