However, if that person follows you home and bangs on your windows until you come to the door in order to ask you questions, most people would consider them a nuisance at best, a stalker at worst, even in the most friendly of areas.
But the OP thinks that this person is 'nice', maybe the doorbell is not working.
Do people really start threads like this, just as a wind-up?0 -

It may or may not be true.
But it's interesting how many posters jump in with words like ''creepy pervert'' etc.
It sounds like unusual, annoying behaviour. But no indication of any sexual motive.
To me, it demonstrates how influenced the public has become by sensationalist popular culture.0 -

He also lives on the other side of town, so I assume he must have my neighbours keeping an eye on me. It is bizarre.sevenhills wrote: »But the OP thinks that this person is 'nice', maybe the doorbell is not working.
"Nice" but ....
The LL's behaviour isn't normal or acceptable.0 -
You're putting a negative inclination on everything.
Asking someone a question isn't always an interrogation, it can just be chatting.
If you meet someone you know who usually works during the day and ask them "why aren't you at work?" it doesn't mean you're accusing them of anything.
It's impossible to judge these things over the internet.
It might seem odd to someone who grows up in London/SE but strangers who seem to think everyone is their friend are quite common in the rest of the country.
Not sure about that, this is annoying/disturbing behaviour for anywhere IMO. Just move out, and mention to the next landlord that you don`t want to be pestered unless it is really important, explain to them that you had a stalker the last time.0 -

There's nothing south east about my location (unless you're on the Isle of Skye or similar) and I really enjoy the friendliness of the folk up here. But not one of them has ever attempted to knock my window, or go through my mail, or randomly turned up. My actual friends also don't do these things. They also don't have the power to evict me from my home on a whim. This really doesn't sound equivalent to a mismatch of friendliness with the locals...0 -
Do you know where the Landlord lives? You could start doing the same to him.0

I realise that, but there is no law to say you have to respond to someone tapping on the window, even your LL.
You don't have to pretend not to hear, you can choose not to respond.0 -
Knocking on a window is perfectly normal if you think the doorbell or knocker wasn't heard.Rosemary7391 wrote: »There's nothing south east about my location (unless you're on the Isle of Skye or similar) and I really enjoy the friendliness of the folk up here. "Randomly" turning up and calling on someone is also normal behaviour. People do it all the time. I know it would be completely impossible to understand for a millenial who use their mobile phones for everything, but this was the normal method of doing things 20 years ago, and there are still people who do it today.
Also going through someone's mail isn't really the same as noticing that they haven't collected some of their mail for a few days.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -

I suspect the landlord would not agree if the OP started doing the same at his residence.0
