Thanks for the well wishes. I have had a £6 payout from Quidc0 so I have made my first overpayment to the mortgage this year...every little helps even if it is only £6

In other exciting news we have booked our summer holiday. We were debating not having one to save money but life is too short and the kids won't be young forever. Now we've just got to hope that the weather will be good for the week we booked!

My DD woke me earlier and now I can't go back to sleep as I'm worrying about money. Next month is going to be really tight as I've been overpaid for the last 3 months and now payroll are going to recoup the money off this month's wages. Obviously I knew I was being overpaid but as it was Christmas etc I didn't stash any extra money away to cover it when it was recouped. Next month was going to be tight anyway as we have the roof repairs to pay for along with our house insurance renewal. We do have an emergency fund and it's times like this that it's there for, but I hate dipping into it. Anyway we will have a frugal march after doing lots of nice things a half term :)

Whilst I've been awake I have looked at my student loan account for the first time in 2 years. By the looks of things I should pay it off in 18 months....19 years after I graduated from university. I am obviously not a high earner as my original loan was less than £10k  :D

I'm spending today with DS. He's always asking to go on the bus so we are off on a bus adventure :)

Hope the bus adventure went well.

Sorry you are worrying about £. Can you do some bank switches to bring in some funds or similar?

My DS loved his bus adventure...he got to sit at the front of the double decker both ways so had a fantastic viewing spot. We just stopped for lunch in town and then headed back as DS was very reluctant about going for a wander. Kids ate free at the café so that was a unexpected bonus :)

We're just having a quiet weekend. We popped to the library yesterday and stopped for coffee and cake with some gift vouchers we had. We did puddle jumping at the park in the afternoon to make the most of the storm aftermath. The kids had fun until they had to walk home with soggy wellies. I think today is a tidy up day and getting ready for school/work next week. DH is actually going into the office this week for the first time in nearly two years!

Savingholmes thanks for reminding me about account switching. We had a bad experience previously where one of our direct debits wasn't moved over correctly and we didn't notice for 6 months and then got a big bill. We haven't changed again and I think it will take me more than £100 incentive to make me change as go through the hassle again.

Hi Becky - the solution is to set up an account that you don't care that much about - and set up a couple of direct debits to it. Then a few months later switch that... I didn't switch my fave account just a couple of extras I'd set up... That way I also benefitted from 2 lots of switching bonus. I'd definitely do it again.
