  • Do the kids know about your finances at all, either a little or no idea. Chances are they will have guessed. It may help to speak to them and still to us lot to help you get through it. They might also be the ones with who to have the conversations about presents etc. If you currently spend 30 each say 15 or 20 or something.
Tell oh what you are planning and then do some tough love. I did a phase of having rubbish food empty fridge, scraps of toothpaste left etc to get the point over at our house although this is still very much work in progress.

  • Also i think post april you need a little treat pot for yourself to help you keep upbeat. Even just 50p or a pound a week that you know you can spend on a pack of sweets paper, book etc. Its going to be very unfair on you to take all this burden on and i think you need to promise yourself a guilt free token spend to try and stay upbeat about it.

My kids know about what is going on and have done for years and have gone without because of the way we have lived. OH kids dont know and they are shielded from the reality of it as 'they dont need to know'. I dont want them to know that my life is as bad as it is, mind you I also dont want OH to keep on insisting that we pay for stuff for them then guilting me into agreeing to finding the money from somewhere.

ok so what have I done today - gone for an interview for a company just down the road from where I live (20 minute walk) - paying the same money as the job I am supposed to start on 18th but meaning if I get that one I can save about £160 pm or two tanks worth of petrol - hate that we have a big gas guzzler car but cannot afford to change it.... I should hear from the agency on Tuesday of next week and made it clear that I need a start date asap if I take the job with them. Fingers crossed for Tuesday …

not a problem asking - and if I get an offer for the job nearer to home I will take it - its slightly different to what I have done in the past but I can adapt and learn the skills I need for it. yes fingers and toes firmly crossed.

I'm really sorry to say this but there is no "we" pay for stuff if your OH is not contributing - he is insisting you pay for things you can't afford whilst he is not even prepared to do the paperwork for his claim against his employers .

Sorry but I am so incensed on your behalf!

ETA, good for you going for the interview, hope you get the job if it is right for you.

only spend this weekend will be 20 on the electricity meter and that will now last us about a week with the few £ that was left on there. and apart from that the only other useful thing I have done is an inventory of the freezer and food cupboards and meal planning with what we have in. with some strange combinations and using up what we have I dont need to go shopping till around the 22nd apart from bread/ milk from the local shop. so should get by on £200 total spend on groceries this month.

other thing I have done is set up some saving pots attached to the bank account and every time I log on there I'm moving the odd change into one of them - a massive 32p saved so far :rotfl:
