friendly mechanic did a once over of the car and couldn't find what was wrong with it - its not had a problem since and now the extra cover from RAC is live so worst case scenario is I can get towed home. for now I wait and see if it happens again - and keep my fingers crossed it doesnt.
week to payday - and doing ok
Hi Catandy - I'm sorry to hear about the car but delighted that it appears to have had a miraculous recovery. Do you have an emergency fund? I can't remember. Perhaps it's no bad idea to tick a few pounds away in it for car repairs or any similar emergency which crops up.
Sorry but I'm typing on the bus so I can't scroll or indeed type very well.
Hope you are keeping well, other than that. XDebt: £11,640.02 paid in full! DFD: 30/06/20

I'm building an emergency fund a bit at a time as I go and I plan on taking the car into the garage properly to get it onto the diagnostic tool thingy to find out what is actually wrong with it but thats not going to be until next weekend (after payday).
funds from OH apparently will hit my account after the 10th of July as that is when he receives the payment himself. still not clear what its going to be used for so until my mind is clear it goes into one of my savings pots accounts and is untouched.

A lot of people (including myself) listen to Dave Ramsey, who suggests a starter emergency fund of £1000 when paying off debt.
Perhaps this wouldn't be a bad amount to consider as it would cover most emergencies?Debt: £11,640.02 paid in full! DFD: 30/06/20

I've taken the transfer to the branch that is closer so commute time and spend should be cut down - im back on public transport from Monday so no stressing about car not starting. Car booked in with local garage for Saturday morning to find out what caused the hiccup - ive had problems starting it twice since so there is something there.
DS2 has been in touch and has some news - he has been offered a contract in Japan for a minimum of 6 months and goes early November time. I havent seen him for over a year now and I wont be able to afford to go out to Japan to see him so I want to scrape the money together to go out to Lisbon for a weekend to give him a hug before he ends up halfway across the other side of the world. A couple of 100 should cover it and I want to do it September - so head down at work and get on with selling to make it happen0 -
Now there's something to aim for! :T
I have no doubt you will save up enough to do it.
Tip: book the flights as soon as you can as they will only go up aa your departure date approaches and you can save your pocket money up after that.Debt: £11,640.02 paid in full! DFD: 30/06/20

Oh WOW Catandy - great news for DS and of course you must go and hug him to death before he goes. Fantastic opportunity for him and you must be very proud. Great news also on the transfer closer to home - that must be a massive relief. I work very CTH - can walk in the summer, couldn't bear the thought of a commute again - the stress would finish me off!
As always you sound positive and upbeat, well done, you're smashing this!0 -
I am proud of him and DS1 as well - they are as different as chalk and cheese and their lives are poles apart but they are the sole focus in my life now - I'm never going to get taken by anyone else so my life now is for my sons and their future partners and kiddies (cant wait to be a granny) - all in good time
I started my first day at the new site today - total commute time home - 10 mins - result!
oh and car needed a new set of spark plugs and a service - total damage done £130 so paid for in cash and all done.
DD's went out today and the last of them tomorrow then I decide what to hit next.0 -
Well done on getting the car repairs paid for in cash.
