I've seen elsewhere that VCS are likely to attend court themselves if it's in Sheffield - I live in Sheffield. Would I be more likely to win if I make them go to another court?
No, leave it at Sheffield because that local court is WELL aware of VCS' scams.
No idea at all why you agreed to Mediation. We have NEVER told people to EVER do that.Anyway, after that short update and ramble, I have an issue. I've just accepted a job in Germany so I'll be moving there in October. Obviously getting to court is going to be difficult and expensive and as they are likely to send a load of other court claims soon, I may have to go through that process several times. If I win, will I be able to claim the flight costs back? Are there any other options for doing it remotely or getting someone to attend on my behalf?
All you could do is to ask Sheffield court to consider the case on the papers, in your absence, if you are away by then. Not recommended, as VCS will rock up and have form for steering Judges up the garden path and round the corner (I am thinking of the atrocious steered decision by a clueless Appeal Judge, in VCS v Ward).PRIVATE 'PCN'? Thanks, I've already said to do it at the court near my parents house.
I went through mediation basically to make them do more work and waste their time, like they waste mine.
Hopefully the case will be on a Friday or a Monday to make a trip home for the weekend easier...0 -
Once you have an address I. Germany, send them your new address for service, and require them to erase your old addrsss. Then if they issue to your old addrsss they're screwed.0

I don't know if I'm being targeted by VCS but they've sent another 3 claims to me, 2 from 2015 and another recent one, this one invalid.
However, I didn't receive the court details for 2 historic ones and had no idea they existed (at least I think it's 2 historic ones) and I've received 2 Judgment for Claimant letters saying I owe them £185 on each of them. Is there any way I can appeal this? The letter is not helpful on whether this can be done.0 -
I've received 2 Judgment for Claimant letters
Read how to set aside default CCJs in the stickies/FAQs. Have you written to your MP yet?
You can't do it remotely or get someone to appear on your behalf.
What? Not even your friendly family solicitor CM?You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -

It will cost you £255 for each set aside application, with no guarantee that either will be granted, in which case you lose 2 x £255 and you'll still owe 2 x £185.
If set asides are granted and you win subsequent court hearings, you may still not be able to recover your 2 x £255, unless you can prove that VCS did something wrong (for example sending papers to a former address, despite you informing them of a new one).
If VCS and the court have sent documents to the correct address (how else would you know of the default judgments if they've communicated with a former address?) then there's little prospect of a set aside. There's no 'money back guarantee'!
You must make set aside applications as soon as you become aware of the judgment, so if you're going down that road, you must get on with it right away.
If you decide not to apply for set asides, you have one month only from the date of the judgments in default to pay 2 x £185, otherwise you have two unsatisfied judgments that will utterly wreck your credit rating for the next 6 years, so if you're considering applying for a mortgage in that period, you're very unlikely to get one. Other loans and credit will be extremely difficult to raise (or very expensive), often mobile phone companies won't renew or offer new contracts, jobs in finance are threatened.
However, if you're going to be out of the UK for the next 6 years, some of the above may not be a concern for you. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

Damn, that's £370 I have to spend then for parking in my own space.
The judgments came through to the correct address, but I live in a flat where mail often doesn't arrive, and these were both with the same dates. I expect both were posted on the same day, the postman tried to deliver them, they've gone into a black hole and the next I hear is I have 2 judgments against me. Irritating to say the least.
I've written to 2 MP's to complain, one in my registered address and one for my parent's address.0 -
Thanks for your help, Umkonaas and The Deep.0

Only pay them if you are happy to!
If the ccjs were issued over a month ago then paying them won't remove them from your credit record, and your credit status will be trashed well and truly for 6 years0 -
I'm not happy to pay them, the judgments came through on July 25. I don't want to pay them, but I also don't want a CCJ on my record for 6 years.0
