I just asked around, we don't want you - sorry!

Joking aside (probably), West Wales is stunning and high on my list of places to retire to. It can be remote, house prices are increasing, it is becoming much more popular with tourists but not as saturated as Devon/Cornwall for instance. Welsh is prevelant of course, but a huge influx of english speaks means you won't struggle.

I live near Swansea, if you can afford it then there is the Gower, but roads are a nightmare in the summer. Mid Wales is another option, but very remote and not many houses for sale.

I'd consider the West coast, Aberporth to Aberareon is arguably the sweet spot, I often tour there in a camper, or bike through it. Ovoid Milford, horrible, but surrounding area is nice.

I would dearly love to live somewhere where I couldn't see my neighbours but as you grow older that isn't always practical..

To be blunt, it's not the best situation, even when young.

We chose our (Devon) home because there was space around and very little congestion in the location we're in, even in the school holidays. Sweet spots exist, but not where most people look for them, or in the glossy magazines.

We have valued neighbours and good basic services as well as a few acres to play in. There's nowhere worse IMO than being isolated down some half-mile track with no one to look out for you in the event of rural crime. It's still rare, but it's growing.

Besides, who's going to feed the cat or shut the hens up at night if you're off for a jolly to 'civilsation?'

Can anyone recommend a good, honest and reliable removals service?
Are you moving from a 'starter home'? Depends on size really as to what you should go for

Before you laugh, ask yourself why Tony Christie never recorded "Is This the Way to Llanfairfechan?"

    Exactly! Fechan ridiculous language ....

This ^^^^ has to be a masterclass in subversive tactics. How to swear on a family forum and get away with it!

(Goes off to get cloth to wipe choking-with-laughter sprayed tea off the keyboard!)

Ah, so many fond memories, so many strange tales but, like memories, I suspect this thread will fade and vanish...

Depends. Have you recently lost a beloved canine?
