Can anyone recommend a good, honest and reliable removals service?

I am considering moving from my Home Area (definitely not what it Used To Be before I moved in!!!), to a rural location like Wales. I am hoping there is someone on the forum with direct experience of this, someone approaching retirement age... I do need to be careful with my money!

I do worry that I might move, only to find I have chosen the wrong area, or move to an area not full of Normal People like myself, maybe end up with a Neighbour From Hell, and I could benefit from views - any views really - of those that have done this before, that is.

I understand Japanese Knotweed is rife Over There, and many of the tradesmen leave much to be desired, and it's difficult to get a Proper Job Finished. There may even be areas where welsh is popular, or land boundaries not definitively defined, and I wouldn't want any of that, thank you very much to!

I would go and spend some time over there, rent for a while, but time is, sadly, a bit short.

Are there any particularly nice locations that I ought to look to?

Do any of the Forum regulars have such experiences or reminiscences to share, or maybe remember others with such experiences they'd like to mention?

Oh, I'll probably be out tomorrow, so will only see the overnight responses, I suspect!

There's just a teensy tiny bit of that I don't understand :rotfl:

If the OP was a new user I'd be suspecting a windup.

I did it at 51 .. was supposed to have a last adventure with my late Mum but she deteriorated too quickly from exchange to completion (month in-between)

I went to West Wales and to be honest it was a nightmare for me I stayed for 11 months. I am female and was alone

I made 3 very close friends in such a short time but was not enough to get me past the amazing scenery.

I come from rural south east and used to being outside all the time , but it was the practical problems which were so difficult for me as having animals and rescue ones

Where I was everyone including a neighbour just thought my animals were for eating and lost 8 ducks in total and a few hens so considering all of them were rescue it was a battle to keep them safe.

I was very rural and nearest shop was about 10 miles and nearest supermarket was 20 which was fine until visiting the shops and let like a fish out of water

I had a separate cottage which initially was for my Mum but as that didn't work I thought holiday let as I was a LL both in industrial and residential for many years

I just couldn't find the will to get it off the ground as being an "outsider" made everything difficult

My best friend was an estate agent and he took over when I admitted defeat and as I moved back over the border he dealt with everything whilst I moved to somewhere more forgiving.

Stayed another 3 years but eventually moved back to where I came from a month ago

Do I regret it ? absolutely not but all I would say is don't commit... spend time renting in an area first before buying and decide what you want from the move
Sometimes what we are looking for is right on the doorstep and views and scenery are amazing but it isn't everything.
Discuss with the family and get everyones point of view.

Mine were in total agreement until distance became an issue

    Who?

No idea who that is. In fact, if you copy and paste that exactly, no user of that name is known....

Now, I must go and tend to my Daily Deeds. Something just went "whoosh" up above as I read Taff's post, and I have no idea what it was. There's a little man doing the Loft Insulation at the moment (very, very badly, as it happens), and I think the noise is him peeling the foil off!

  • I used to have to go to Wales a few times every year for a day or so.

The feeling of relief as I came back over the bridge to England after each visit......:rotfl:

Fortunately, much as you might believe in protecting the borders, the Welsh, particularly the Welsh speaking, aren’t worried about cultural imperialism and actively welcome the monoglot English.

Cor, I can top that :D

Where I live, the Christmas 'don't drink and drive' posters affixed to the lamp-posts are written in three languages, only one of them English! ;)
