Restaurant demanding money not owed

What no pro-rata service charge breakdown???!!!
Seriously though this really isn't that complicated of a situation.
Either you take the bill and divide it by the number of people there, or everyone throws in what they owe.
HOWEVER!!! All of that said, it is then on the restaurant to ensure that the full bill has been paid. In the OPs case it hadn't, the restaurant said what was owed and that was paid.
Any further criticism should be laid at the door of the restaurant not the OP or her party.0 -
Or 3. Dont go out with people who like their wine.billy2shots wrote: »2 things to think about in future.
1. Avoid big group meals unless everyone Pre pays cash into a kitty at the start. (Any Change shared out at the end).
2. Get new friends if people are too tight to split the bill equally.0 -

A large group of 20 odd people wandering off in dribs and drabs to pay small chunks off the bill for an amount they had calculated (no paying of service charge if applicable) is ridiculous.
In which case the restaurant had the option of declining to split the bill - some offer this as a service. If this restaurant is one of them then perhaps they need to take a look at their business decisions.
Its still not certain that the extra was a service charge or that they were informed of it before they ordered. Never mind whether it was paid or not.
But I do agree that first step should be to contact everyone and ask what they had and what they paid and then reconcile that with the bill provided by the restaurant. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
