Symbio Energy feedback

  • Like many others, I'm starting to tire of this nonsense with Symbio.

I switched to them on 20/8/19 and from opening reading on that date to 31/12/19 I actually consumed 1399KWH. This equated to total usage in £ (inc S/C) of £185.61. I have PAID DD's of £194.28 over that same period to end December, so technically they owe me £8.67 as at 31/12/19.

Latest estimated usage according to them for January will be 709.87 KWH. In December I actually consumed 352 KWH so they are estimating that I will use DOUBLE the electricity this month compared to last month... absolute madness.

Symbio harp on in their e-mails about much higher winter usage but as my heating is Gas my electric use is fairly constant throughout the year. Yes more lights on in the evenings in winter but all LED and to balance this my two fridges and freezers are using less energy in winter than summer.

I submit my readings on the 1st of each month without fail but what's the point!!!???

Seriously considering switching, in spite of the low tariff.

Green. Check them out boxerfan. Just as cheap and customer service second to none in my correspondence with them in last 48 hours. I've gone onto Oak variable but there are also fixed for slightly more. Cheapness isn't always the best. Electricity companies shouldn't be the hassle symbio are turning into.
  • My Jan statement is £95 when it should be about £55

I decided to "bite the bullet" and send an email to Symbio tonight. I'm not expecting any response or any changes, but felt it was important to record my dissatisfaction at the way they seem to disregard meter history and estimated annual consumption.

    Dear Sir/Madam,
Can you explain what method of calculation you have used to reach the estimate for my January consumption. It is excessively high. I can't recall a time when I have ever used more that 9 units a day at this time of year. I don't believe I will use an extra 130 units in January and would appreciate if you would reassess your calculation to something more realistic and amend the amount to be deducted.
    December actual consumption...234 units.....31 days = 7.54 units a day
    estimated use for January.........362 units.... 31 days = 11.67 units a day.
    many thanks

Very well crafted email I like it

For comparison my actual December usage was 272.2 kWh (8.78 kWh per day)

January guestimate was 402.2 kWh (12.97 kWh per day)

November's usage was 250.7 (8.35 kWh per day)

Lol just leave them. You don't need this hassle

Already had loads of correspondence from green.. Even though I only started the switch today

I even got my customer number and login which I didn't get until after my switchover with symbio
It will be interesting how they handle your refund - after all you pay in advance, or did you cancel your DD?

By time i leave them it will be beginning of February. So will have to pay them January's bill anyway. However as it's the grossly inflated January bill I will indeed be in credit so I will contact them and tell them to only charge my anticipated usage of £32. Not £56.50. If they don't alter the bill I will cancel direct debit

Going to be stuck with Symbio for a while, can't find another supplier cheaper or same price currently, I won't be switching to a more expensive supplier. Hopefully they will be change DD back to a fixed monthly amount as agreed, over inflated January DD cancelled.

Same here. The 3 cheapest tariffs for me are all Symbio and only one of them is less than I am currently paying, £5 less but with a £30 exit fee.

Are green. Dearer for you then molerat. They are slightjy cheaper for me on oak tariff. Even cheaper are neon reef but I'm no fan of utility point and they seem to be associated with them
