My Symbio tariff is up for renewal on 1st October.  I've chosen their Low Fair & Green Variable SE03v1 at 11.46p and 19p/day.  Hopefully that will save the hassle of having to change suppliers!  We shall see!

Where did you get that date from, not their renewal e-mail I hope >:)

Yes, I did and it ties in with the confirmatory renewal email they've just sent me.  Is there an issue there?

Some renewal e-mails seem to have a random "1st of next month" date rather than the actual real renewal date.

Mine said 1st October, which although a few days later than my current contract expires, I've got no problem with.
I had to ring them up to renew, as the website wouldn't take the code they sent, but they answered the phone (a real human being!) in about 30 seconds, so no problem there.
    No doubt we shall see.

    I've jumped.
I would have stayed with Symbio, but I've so far had three different renewal acceptances all with different prices and differing EAC's (despite them having 12months of my actual data). Plus they are faffing around with my DD so it's Neon Reef for me.
They  are a few quid more expensive the Symbio (depending on which tariff I might have ended up on) but hopefully the billing is a bit less convoluted.

  • Just got my final bill. What a mess. Charged an exit fee as they quoted the renewal account on the bill. The account I am on has no exit fee and anyway I left just before the end within the 49 day period. Check your final bill closely when leaving.
Promised a refund of the exit fee. They close your account promptly.

From today both my daughter and I are no longer Symbio customers.  Now I expect the fun to begin.  I am still over a month inside my no exit fee contract period - after erroneous transfer away and return re-started my contract - but my daughter is outside of that but still inside the random renewal date they showed in their e-mails.
There wrong doings, acting outside their licence conditions, are
No 49 - 42 renewal notification - the first notification was at 28 days with a corrupt unreadable e-mail
Transfer to a fixed term with exit fee without express acceptance
My daughter started the switch within the 20 day post actual renewal date period so we shall see what happens on that one.

Mine said 1st October even though my last ran out on 3rd September. I too phoned and they said staying on old tariff until 1st. So they must be wanting everyone on the same date.
  • We joined Symbio in 2019 following confirmation of the amount we would pay each month.  However, Symbio has taken and consistently attempts to take much larger sums than they are entitled to and way in excess of our fuel consumption; from our bank account.

Part of their Terms & Conditions state:

Please remember you can only be charged for electricity to use which can only be determined with meter reads. We will send you a reminder to provide meter reads every 3 months. You can supply reads more frequently should you wish. There is no limit on the meter submissions you make.

However, Symbio harasses us on a monthly basis for meter reads instead of every 3 months as stated in their T & C's above, we are a low income household and (our meter is not located within our home).

If you are open to being consistently harassed on a monthly basis for meter reads and is happy to make monthly payments in excess of your fuel consumption, ignore the above.

Just delete the emails and carry on submitting your readings every 3 months but be prepared to deal with their wildly estimated bills and no monthly bill variance consolidation. As much as Symbio are incompetent, I'd hardly consider a monthly meter reading email from them harassment, even if they only promised to only send one every 3 months.

Your not helping yourself here, might you consider a smart meter if taking readings is a difficulty, although thats potentially opening another can of worms.

Symbio's current terms and conditions request meter readings are submitted monthly. The reference to 3 months relates to the time to submit an opening reading.
