Good and Bad Buying at Lidl and Aldi (***Please don't expire***)

Pleased to see that Cherry Liqueurs have appeared in Aldi this week.:D
I did happen across the bitter orange candles, the smell was pleasant enough but no big deal. The price of the large (4 wick) jars caught my eye for the wrong day though: £19.99
They were humongous, but I couldn't see the wicks burning down to the bottom of the candles, though.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I like the lime, mandarin and basil too (No 1). It's very popular and I've had to dig around to find any.
).
I bought a 3 pack of candles:
pomegranate, lime/basil/mandarin and bitter orange at the beginning of this week.
£8.99 (I think)0 -

That's not been my experience although I usually eat it within a week.
What I have found is that they have two brands (one with union flag decoration and one more basic) and so two prices. I've bought the cheaper one regularly. It tastes great but it can be very watery on occasion.0 -
A couple of returning products:-
- At Aldi, the flavoured Houmous is back. This seems to be new recipe or new supplier in the old packaging. The Moroccan style is way better than before with small pieces of fruit and sultanas in it.
- At Lidl, the 1.5L own brand "Lindhouse" Squash is back. This has new flatter packaging.0 -

Houmous has to be one of the most pointless foods there is. I have a feeling that people only buy it because other people they know buy it too. Besides being truly awful (the texture alone ...) it doesn't "go" with anything or serve any purpose other than as an irritant for those who, like me, can't stand the stuff.
I suppose these people eat olives too. _pale_
Steak, egg & chips any day please.
*Important*
Don't take it too seriously.
There are lots of foods which are very popular that - if you think about it logically - are pointless and have no redeeming features.
Think Ugly fruit or tasteless frozen lobster for example.0 -

The red SEL was £3.99, but it came up as £5.99 at the till - which I declined (there are better fizzes available for less). Didn't have time or inclination to argue the toss but I'm wondering if its just sloppy store administration? I say this because there was a basket full of mince pies at last week's promotional price. I noticed in my store this week they were a different price altogether.
ETA: I've finally worked it out. The frizzante on offer looks very similar to the £5.99 version: the key difference is the screw cap vs cork. Plus online reviews are not brilliant so just buy a better product.
ETA 2: I've just seen it in for the same price in Lidl today.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I like Hummous - I certainly eat much more of it than Steak (although I'm not that keen on Steak, overall).
I think you're right that it isn't particularly versatile. I like it in wraps with Falafel (which is its true purpose in life), as a dip with bread or crisps, and on toast.0 -
Just been to Aldi and it's chaos. Queuing for a parking space. Lidl doesn't look any better. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0

I've been surprised at just how empty Aldi has been this year, even yesterday there seemed no more customers than any other
