Moved in, abandoned car in allocated parking space

Options
Hi, moved in to new flat with allocated parking space. There is an abandoned car in the space. Obviously estate agents aren't interested but did phone previous owner who denied all knowledge. We have done the dvla check and it's been SORN and MOT has run out. Not a police matter as its on private property. Have asked all the neighbours, no one knows anything. Have applied to dvla for information. Really don't know what else to do. Any ideas or advice gratefully received.
Thanks

Maybe this previous thread from someone with the same problem will offer some solutions; https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5640456/abandoned-car-in-my-parking-space

IS there a management company or landlord who you can contact?

Sometimes such vehicles mysteriously find their way onto the public road, where the police can deal with them.

Though I would probably wait for an answer from DVLA in case it's just a confused/cheeky local.

How long has it been there for?
  • Thank you for the replies. We have contacted the management company, they asked for us to send photos and they'd look into it. Yes we thought if the car ended up on the road the police would deal with it but it's in underground parking and would have to go up hill. Not so easy.
Really hoping dvla will give us info to contact the owner and ask to remove.
    Thanks again.

Have you contacted the council? they might be able to help, depending on their policies.

I am currently in same position but with a caravan. I thought police had to move vehicle.

If it's underground parking then is it in a managed car park.

You can't sell it as your not legally the owner. Only thing you can do is get it towed away and They can charge the registered owner towing fees and storage charge. Once an invoice goes out the owner will suddenly appear.

Does it depend on where you are? There are a couple of apparently abandoned cars in our car park, one SORN and the other crash damaged and no MOT - Scotland, dunno if that makes a difference. The car park is for residents use but is essentially public - not closed off, no charge, used regularly for the public football pitches alongside. Anyway, a bit of googling told me to report abandoned vehicles on private land to the council, and on public land to the police. I reported to the police about 3 months ago and they’re still there.

Your council has a duty to remove abandoned vehicles.
