Car reversing out of park space.

And they don't even notice that we had to leap out of the way....
Or care....
I was once half way across the clearly marked pedestrian crossing in a supermarket car park when a car sailed straight across without slowing even slightly. I slapped the window, hard...
While in the store, I hear "That's the f'ing c wot it my f'ing motah! I'll 'ave 'im..."...
Oh, thinks I, this could get interesting - until I hear his girlfriend's reply...
"Nah, you mean that's the poor sod you nearly ran over you, you cretin. Leave it!"
Another time, I did actually get a waved apology from the uniformed driver of the marked police car heading in to the car park.0 -
I find slapping the window as they steam past works wonders.
There is a house I pass with a high hedge, that comes right to the gatepost.
One of the many vehicles there is a van, that he parks close to the hedge nose in, completely hidden.
2 or 3 times I've been caught by him just reversing out blind, as he can't see anything until his passenger window clears the hedge.
Next time he does that virtually in front of my feet I'm slapping the back of the van hard and lying down next to it.:D
Obviously, if he had any sense he'd reverse in, (then he'd only need get a short way across the pavement before he could see) but that would inconvenience him, as he'd have to get out of the passenger side, and who cares about the odd pedestrian, they can jolly well get out of his way when he reverses across his pavement outside his house.
It is a main road, so you can't hear it behind the hedge over the traffic noise.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

That doesn't mean nobody else has to look around as well.
OK, same situation, but OP is blind. Should they be 'looking' too?!!
Hopefully anyone reading this thread, that reverses OUT OF their driveway, with poor visibility, will reverse IN TO it instead from now on.With more and more electric "stealth" cars about I bet this'll happen more often. You use your ears as much as eyes, IMO.
Most emit a 'pedestrian warning' noise from the front at low speed - at high speed tyre noise takes over. Some cars don't do it when reversing though, and it's often not loud enough to be heard in city conditions. Plus, loads of pedestrians will be wearing earphones. As you say, if you have both senses, you should use them!0 -
Be aware of hidden entrances
Look out for hidden entrances and driveways, and encourage your child to do the same. It can be difficult for motorists to see youngsters, particularly if they are reversing, so be careful when walking along roads with driveways that go onto the path.

Some years ago I was edging out of a drive, forwards, high hedge preventing any visibility and a kid on a bike came flying past on a bike on the pavement. Fortunately I was only a few inches out of the drive and he was able to swerve round. As soon as I saw him I braked hard.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
