I did not say that there are any apps that allow you to set up a new payee without 2FA.

Okay, well I guess my point stands, then, that fingerprint etc isn't a security risk, if you always need something else to actually transfer money to a new payee (I still prefer 2FA on all outgoing transfers, which is why I use Starling and Monzo).
I know you think wrong. Two burly thugs can easily force the finger of a weaker person (e.g. most women) onto the phone button, and hey presto, after max 10 tries (but probably a lot less), the phone is open.

A lot of effort just to see someone's balance! This kind of theft is very rare, I've never heard of it happening just to unlock someones phone. It would have little benefit, the phone would lock again soon anyway (you need the PIN to take the fingerprint lock off on both). Two burly thugs generally go for money in a wallet.

But, people watching others to what PIN they are entering and then stealing their phone is a very common type of theft.

If ‘two burly thugs’ are willing to assault someone for their fingerprint do you think they’d just accept it graciously when you decline to give them your PIN? :rotfl:
They can beat me up if if give them a wrong PIN three times. But they can't get into my phone and clean out my accounts.

But you said all your accounts have some sort of 2FA for transfers? So how can they clean out your account (with either your phone PIN or your fingerprint?). They would need the other piece of information (on Monzo, your card PIN for example).

Sorry, I'm not trying to be obstinate, I just don't get what risk you are getting at?

First Direct - My main bank where my income comes into and my savings accounts are

Halifax - Where my outgoings go out from and where I hold my short-term savings and Clarity Card.

AMEX - Gold charge card which is my main card, and basic credit card with them, which I don't really use anymore to be fair

Barclaycard - Reward card for places I can't use AMEX

Metro Bank - Used it for free European cash withdrawals but I don't use it and I'm always forgetting my internet banking details..

I am not going to explain anything further to you, not least because you keep saying that I said things that I never said.

Okay. At least, it seems we are agreed that using a fingerprint lock does not expose anyone to a risk of their account being cleared.

I still think it's risky to type your phone pin in in public, but it's probably all on the fringe of what constitutes the 'best' security and more than secure enough (as long as your phone pin is different to your bank card pin of course!). Most people fall at far earlier hudles than this.

You'd rather be beaten to a pulp then robbed? Don't think I would.

No we have not agreed that, quite the contrary.

    None.

Not least because I've still got an old Blackberry that keeps on running and doesn't like Apps. :)

Every contract renewal I beat up Vodaphone and get my deal cheaper and cheaper. Now down to £8 a month. Why pay for an expensive phone just to monitor a bank account. Put the money in your pension pot instead ;)
