Money Moral Dilemma: Should our friends pay for part of our holiday?

You’ve not actually said you can’t afford to pay for the more expensive time away so be honest with yourselves and ask if you really want to go away with friends. If so then pay up. If not choose your own holiday and enjoy.0

Of course they should not pay.
Decline politely explaining why you cannot pay as much as them, then go somewhere that you can afford.0 -
I'm at a loss to understand why you're asking this.
You don't say you can't afford the more expensive weeks, which I'm taking you were aware that there were more expensive weeks when you gave the dates you were free.
You left it up to them to choose when they could go - so the weeks they're free are more expensive but surely you were aware of all the prices when you said what dates you could go, so why are you asking?
I think it would be quite rude to ask them to pay the difference in price for you as well, don't forget they're also paying the more expensive weeks too.
Are these your actual close friends or not? I wouldn't expect a friend to do that to me, unless of course you're too broke to afford to go then, which is it?
You have a choice, you can go with them and pay for the more expensive weeks or you can say you can't afford the more expensive weeks, so you're going by yourselves and hopefully you can sort out another holiday next year when you can all go together for a cheaper price.0 -

These are not false or fake, I asked one myself - so shut up.
There is no need to be so rude to that poster.
They are not the only ones that think this is too ludicrous to be true.0 -
Either pay the increased amount for the holiday or book the cheaper dates and go on your own. They've asked if we'd like to go on holiday with them. We’ve given the dates we're free but the only weeks they can travel are more expensive. Is it OK to ask them to pay the difference, given we could've gone for a cheaper deal?
Personally, the idea of going on holiday with friends is anathema to me.0 -
These are real dilemmas for some people
My sister is a teacher so therefore can only go in non term time with huge prices.
We wanted to all go to Spain together but the price almost doubled what we normally paid so asked initially if she would pay some of the difference.
She wasn't very impressed but I thought well this might be our only chance so we paid the extra.0 -

Wow, so some people really do have that much nerve. Who'd have thought it.
I'm not surprised she wasn't impressed!0 -

I used to work with a woman who would tell friends who invited her round to pay for her taxi fare. She said why should she be out of pocket if they wanted to see her! Of course, she never considered that they would spend money/time on food and drink. She didn't get a lot of invites!
I think with dilemmas like these people should always remember there is usually give and take in a friendship. There have been times when I have been a bit put out when a friend has suggested something that would be costly. But when I have thought about it I have remembered times when that person has been the one to put more money or effort in when I wanted to do something.0 -
