People are having trouble sticking to the central thesis of this thread - which is that for first time users (especially from the provinces), the system is unintuitive and unfair.
Presumably, it's one-off users who are the ones getting fined (in your data) because they don't know about the payment window, and the thought of complaining to these people is like hitting one's head against a brick wall.
Whichever way you dice it, this is a BLANKET charge for one-off / first-time users of the system, it's unBritish, unfair, and obnoxious - and will not be happening much longer don't worry...0 -
Think of it more as a penalty for ignorance and failure to prepare0

No, it isn't. Only for those who cba to spend more than about 20 seconds investigating, and just assume.Whichever way you dice it, this is a BLANKET charge for one-off / first-time users of the system
Go on, give us a timescale...and will not be happening much longer don't worry...0 -

But it isn't - that's the point
Presumably you can cope with the multitude of car parks (pay on entry, pay on exit, pay & display, pay by phone etc), public transport (a similar plethora of ticket options) and yet because this one caught you out and cost you money the system is unfair
I admit I've fallen foul of the CC charge before (twice) - in both instances after I'd moved out of London and I purely forgot to do it despite the best intentions - no toys out of pram, no blaming the system, just a memory not to do it again0 -
It's not my data, and your idle threats don't convince anyone. You couldn't get past the first page on the CZ website, so I'm not confident in your ability to effect a change in a system that 50,000 people are able to navigate properly every day.People are having trouble sticking to the central thesis of this thread - which is that for first time users (especially from the provinces), the system is unintuitive and unfair.

I literally googled congestion charge payment, and head page from tfl:
Congestion Charge payments
You only need to pay once, no matter how many times you drive in and out of the Congestion Charge zone on the same day.
You can pay in advance, on the day of travel or by midnight the following charging day. The daily charge is £11.50 if you pay in advance or on the same day, or £14 if paid the following charging day
So my argument might be the ‘have you paid’ sign?
I.e question...have you paid?
Answer no: better see how this works
Would you agree with someone entering a pay and display car park, not pay and then return to a (fined) car and moan saying “swear I was gonna do it, didn’t know it had to be within 5 minutes of arriving tho!”0 -
Just playing “a person who expresses a contentious opinion in order to provoke debate or test the strength of the opposing arguments”0

I typed in "congestion charge", which seems like a perfectly reasonable form of research, into google and the information that comes up doesn't mention the payment window.
I won't bother to answer your irrelevant hypothetical question about parking.0
