My 97 year-old dad is still driving, much better than my 69 year-old sister.

I'm impressed by unforeseen's ability to apportion blame on the evidence of a photo.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

Given that the photos show a Freelander 2 with substantial damage to NSF wing and door, and that it was pulling out of a side road onto an A-road, it's really quite tricky to think of any other way to apportion blame.

I've read the article, I can't see anywhere where it says Prince Phillip caused the crash?

Really hope your day job isn't an accident claims investigator.

But just think about what must have gone through the heads of the people in the other car, when they realised who they'd hit...

They'll be dining out on that story for years to come!!

Doesn't matter who the driver was. Everyone should have to take a fresh driving test on a regular basis, with more frequent tests for people over (say) 75

Hopefully this case may spark public debate about the general issue of drivers - of all ages - who shouldn't be on the road.

royal cars are built like tanks, bulletproof glass etc makes them quite heavy, im surprised the other car managed to turn it over. Bet the security were krapping themselves thinking it was an assasination attempt.
I see the papers are not going with the blind pensioner causes road accident angle, going with road speed to be reduced and cameras installed, wonder who they are saying might be to blame?

I would imagine the obviously speeding car that "appeared from nowhere".
Why should he be any different from the people who post on here? ;)
I'm sure he has dozens of witnesses anyway.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

I thought after the age of 70 you have to reapply for your license every 3 years and have an eye test.

You have to renew, but there's no eye test.

Any other 97yo would be being sat down by the police, and the conversation would start with "We think now would be a very good time to consider handing your licence in, and if you agree then no further action will be taken over this incident, SIR..."
    .

I would guess that over the next couple of days thats pretty much what is going to happen. Though it will probably be some special diplomatic branch that will do the talking and they will phrase the conversation around 'security' etc.

Pretty impressive that a 97 year old could walk away from something like that though. Tough car.
