Yeah, the automotive world is changing - people are holding off to see what's going to happen with electrification and diesel emissions, and Tesla has been causing massive disruption. Some automotive jobs will have been lost completely unrelated to Brexit, but too many have and will be lost due to Brexit too.

Pound hits seven-month high amid Tory win expectations
The pound has hit its highest level in seven months, as City traders show increased confidence that Boris Johnson will win next week’s general election.

Sterling has jumped to $1.3039, up nearly half a cent, to levels not seen since May 2019.

Traders appear to be reacting to the latest Sky News/YouGov poll, which gave the Conservatives a nine-point lead ahead of Thursday’s general election.

The poll puts the Tories on 42%, Labour on 33%, the Liberal Democrats are on 12%, and Brexit Party is on 4%, up two points.

The City fears another hung parliament, which could mean more deadlock and possible a disorderly Brexit. So this polling is pushing the pound up

Boris? Isn't he the guy that promised Brexit. It seems the financial markets are betting on him to win.

But the Tory peak polling was 47% back in November, and the Tory majority seems to be dropping in the last week. So if this $ rate was based on a Tory majority, it'd be coming back down again.

Is market confidence rising due to the potential increased stability from a Labour win followed by a soft Brexit?

The Tories are maintaining a steady lead over Labour as the general election approaches, polls show.

Boris Johnson's Conservative Party has a 10-point advantage over their nearest opposition, according to an average of surveys from the last seven days.

The poll of polls, compiled by PA Media, puts the Tories on 43 per cent, Labour on 33 and the Lib Dems behind on 13.

This marks almost a week of the Tories average lead being at 10.

I admire your optimism in the face of all facts.

After Farage's capitulation today, I have to revise my forecast:

    Con 300 (364)
    Lab 250 (203)
    Lib Dem 40 (11)
    Brexit 0 (0)
    SNP 40 (48)
    Other 20 (23)

That was not one of my better forecasts. :rotfl:
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

    Not a chance in hell.

Anyway it’s now pointless for labour to argue for another referendum. It would basically hand boris a landslide.

    Erm....
December 2019 notice: This article was written in 2016, before Brexit talks began. Guy Verhofstadt's proposal was included in the European Parliament's negotiating mandate, but was not taken up by the UK government and EU member states, who raised legal questions about its viability. It is no longer a live proposal.

    Still happy with it?

    Verhofstadt seems keen:

"Citizens can never become the victims of Brexit.

"I have received hundreds of letters of citizens panicking about their status. I want to make an appeal to PM Johnson: be generous in your victory. Grant to all EU citizens the full rights as they have today. Automatically. To all of them. No 'ifs and buts'.

"The EU member states should grant UK citizens living in Europe the full rights as they have today. Automatically. No 'ifs and buts' here either. Let's also come back to the idea of 'European associated citizenship' for UK citizens who want to keep their link with Europe."
I'll be thrilled if I get to keep the rights I currently have.
