It's a little worrying that he has brought Brexit into the conversation though.

Business people put business first. If the UK slashed Corporation Tax to 5% there'd be a migration of US brass plates from Eire post Brexit.

Good deflection. I put a point across and you reply with a point that’s just about relevant. I don’t see that importing brass plates would do much for employment whereas a manufacturing company would have a material impact.

Furthermore, being as we will be looking for trade deals across the globe I’m not sure that undercutting corporation tax would create an atmosphere conducive to trade negotiations.

FWIW even as a remainer I don't think that it's worth debating whether or not a Tesla plant would have been built in the UK.

Back in 2014 Musk did say that the first plant would be in continental Europe but that the second would be in the UK and an R&D centre would be in the UK before a car plant.

It's a little worrying that he has brought Brexit into the conversation though.

Did he bring Brexit into the conversation or did someone ask him?

Since according to the EU this bill was in the largest part for commitments made under the EU budget running until 2020 and since the UK has continued paying these past years that must surely mean that the remaining bill will be negligible if, as planned, the UK will remain a member until early 2020?
What about the UK's share of EU assets (widely recognized & agreed) built up since joining, can anyone tell us when these will be discussed and agreement reached since it does look like the EU will owe quite a sum back to the UK?

If you don’t understand what was negotiated I suggest you ask your Brexit party candidate?
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.

I wasn’t there so can’t answer that question.

It was reported that he intended to build a plant and r&d centre in the U.K. once he’d set up a plant in mainland Europe. He may yet do that but I’ve not seen anything to suggest that we are still on his radar (although I must admit that I haven’t been searching for details).

"I'm not very happy about talking to you so, if you don't mind, I'll just mooch on with what I'm doing."

At least he didn't say that he wasn't going to build his factory in Britain because there are too many p!edos here.

Remainers have been reduced to "see, we told you Brexit was a bad idea, a skunk-addled billionaire said so". Wait a sec, I thought billionaires were evil and couldn't be trusted because some of them funded the Leave campaign and have been making money from the fall in Sterling.

No we're just pointing out the economic impact Brexit is having, because the Leavers are adamant it's not happening. We're definitely not happy with it, but we're hoping (vainly) that some of it might sink in and people will start to realise that it's not worth it. I honestly thing we've passed the point where anyone still advocating to leave cares though.

Every interview/PR stunt I've seen from him in the last few days is just making him look worse. They really should just lock him in a country club until the 13th.

My post was directly related to one which said that Musk had always said that the plant was going to be built in Germany. I also said within my post that he may well build a plant and R&D operation in the U.K. as he is on record as having declared.

I try to keep an open mind about these things but if other posters write things that are untrue, whether maliciously done or not, I will point this out. Despite what many Leavers believe I, and most Remainers, want what’s best for the country and feel that remaining within the EU delivers that. I have no vested interest in the EU other than what everyone else has.
