Brexit the economy and house prices part 7: Brexit Harder

How many more issues will Remainers be weaponising?
Well you could look at tariffs being imposed by the Americans on Scotch Whisky. Given Farage & Johnson are best buds with Donnie you might have expected that 'punishment' tariffs be directed at French garlic, onions & berets rather than British exports.0 -

For Honda UK Brexit is top of the agenda but continue to play it down by all means.0 -
Oh for pity's sake...
This is people's livelihoods. Hundreds of thousands of people. Car plants are shutting production and workers being laid off. Because of Brexit. Because car manufacturers don't want to build cars in Brexitland in an already challenging market.
Climate change and diesel effectively killed off the car industry.0 -

Not everything is Brexit related. :cool:0 -

Why are the tariffs being imposed on selected products from EU member states?0 -

If the boss of, say, Nissan UK says car production is not viable in the UK in the event of a no-deal brexit that would qualify as being brexit related don't you think?
Waffling on about global headwinds for the global car industry rather ignores the large elephant in the room that car production in the UK might not be commercially viable the week after next.Thrugelmir wrote: »Why are the tariffs being imposed on selected products from EU member states?
Oh pure horribleness on the part of the EU I'm sure.
You're guilty of deflecting again though. Why would Donnie, Boris' new BFFL, pick on Scotch Whisky as a tariff target when there are plenty of non-UK EU products to target?0 -

We were discussing Honda not Nissan.
Not deflecting at all. I'm asking you a question.
Seems as if you are the one deflecting.0 -

Of course Honda said their decision was nothing to do with brexit so I can see why you want to keep talking about them rather than Nissan. It's a fantasy to think this is true - the European boss gave a raft of reasons about how brexit would / could have negative impacts on the business.
If the Honda business was already struggling and brexit wasn't exactly providing a light at the end of the tunnel then decisions were easy. I'm sure when you were at the coal face of industry you would've thought exactly the same thing but now, in your dotage, you're completely blind to any negative impacts of brexit.
UK car manufacturers don't know if their exports will be subject to EU tariffs in a couple of weeks. By all means try and kid yourself they're all whittling about global headwinds and ignoring the big fat elephant in the room but please don't ask me to join in with your delusion.0 -

Sorry I'm not being delusional. My point was in relation to Honda's decision to close their UK operation. ( For the record they announced a decision to close their fairly new plant in Turkey as well). As much as you ramble on about Brexit it's not actually relevant.
I see that you are still ignoring my question about tariiffs. I can only assume that as it no longer fits your agenda. The topic has been dropped from the conversation. Easy to see who is constantly deflecting.0 -

We both know why tariffs were introduced. The WTO approved the US to impose tariffs on goods from the European Union as retaliation for illegal subsidies given to Airbus.
i.e. pure horribleness by the EU as I said. They're rotters and no mistake.
The question is why the Scotch Whisky has been singled out when Boris is Don's BFFL? Perhaps it indicates that people who think there's a great trade deal with the USA on the horizon are living in cloud cuckoo land?
Not that the USA will be rushing to get a deal if there's a no-deal brexit - they won't need to as the UK is going to slash tariffs anyway.0
