I've been debating answering this but I shall.

Do you not realise that you are voting for a party, not a PM?

It is simple fact that the party that comes into power then normally has a leader who becomes PM, if that leader changes then the PM changes.

We are not the US. You really should not vote for the specific person leading the party, you should vote for the principles of the party as it is quite easy for the leader of the party to change.

If you should vote for Labour there is a good chance momentum would decide to change the leader fairly rapidly, just imagine, vote for them and you could end up with Diane Abbott or John Mcdonnell, or even Jonathan Lansman (the PM does not have to be an MP).
    Right.

So Johnson is a hypocrite for criticising Gordon Brown for benefiting exactly the same way he will benefit when he becomes Conservative Party leader, I mean Prime Minister?

It's funny, you can pretty much change the names in that 2007 quote and have it run perfectly;-
It’s the arrogance. It’s the contempt. That’s what gets me. It’s Boris Johnson's apparent belief that he can just trample on the democratic will of the British people. It’s at moments like this that I think the political world has gone mad, and I am alone in detecting the gigantic fraud.

They voted for Theresa Mary May to serve as their leader. They were at no stage invited to vote on whether Boris Johnson should be PM… They voted for Theresa, and yet they now get Boris, and a transition about as democratically proper as the transition from Claudius to Nero. It is a scandal. Why are we all conniving in this stitch-up? This is nothing less than a palace coup… with North Korean servility, the Conservative Party has handed power over to the brooding American power-maniac.

The extraordinary thing is that it looks as though he will now be in 10 Downing Street for three years, and without a mandate from the British people. No one elected Boris Johnson as Prime Minister…

Boris Johnson could appease public indignation over that, and secure the democratic mandate he needs, by asking the public to vote at once on him, on the new EU treaty, and on the implications of the devolutionary settlement. Let’s have an election without delay.

BTW I am not a Labour voter.

While little britain busies itself with what Boris says and what Boris does, the rest of the world moves on....

The EU is the first major partner to strike a trade pact with Mercosur, a bloc comprising Argentina, Brazil Paraguay and Uruguay. The agreement concluded today will cover a population of 780 million and cement the close political and economic relations between the EU and Mercosur countries.

An amazing result and brilliant news for the EU and Lat Am and SE Asia.

Not great for deluded middle sized countries about to let 100,000 elderly, xenophobic, white English men appoint some incompetent far right hypocrite to be their hard brexit PM.

    And it's getting worse.

Am I the only one who is physically sickened by see Nigel Farage opening an election rally with his supporters cheering to the sound of Air-Raid sirens?

I honestly thought it was a wind-up. No-one could be that stupid...but here we go.

Right wing populist Eastern Europe holding the rest of the EU to ransom on the Brussels top jobs it seems. A problem solved if they printed 500 million ballot papers. Hey Ho.
Lets hope this sort of undemocratic horse-trading will be a dim and distant memory to us next time round.

The horse-trading exists and is far from ideal. However, how would you suggest the appointments should be handled? What would make it more ‘democratic’? Please explain.

As far as I know horse-trading is part of any kind of political system, including the British one. There is horse-trading within the factions of a same party, within the parties of a coalition, etc. For example, what do you call the ca. £1bn which May gave to the DUP for their support? Is that not horse-trading? Is it better than the horse-trading across the Channel? How democratic was it? Were people asked the question: “Do you want to give £1bn to a party stuck in the last millennium and which, by the way, opposed the Good Friday peace agreement, just so it can support the PM?”. Please explain.

If democratically elected leaders try to agree on a candidate, the Europhobes squeal.

If a candidate would be imposed, the Europhobes would squeal.

It's very hard to please squealing Europhobes.

Look, you Chaps may want to be in an organisation where the likes of Victor Orban has a big say, but some of us don't.
