Brexit the economy and house prices part 7: Brexit Harder

Britain practically invented universal health care which was then copied around the world and much improved on. Other countries have found acceptable ways to properly fund their service while ours stays stuck as a postwar model (now drastically underfunded) and a politicians football.
The UK obstinately refuses to countenance better funding models. Nowt to do with Brexit, we've been easily manipulated for decades.
It is a sad fact for the U.K. that many/most/ Brits, in my experience, living in France, Germany Luxembourg and Spain that have anything to say about health care on social media are highly complimentary about the care and facilities available in their new adopted countries.
I only became aware of this after the Brexit referendum as many Brits have gathered together to exchange experiences and advise about how to avoid becoming third country citizens after Brexit or to minimise the impact on their lives.
Healthcare is a major subject and the NHS in the U.K. is compared UNFAVOURABLY.There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -

No doubt.
That however is more a comment on the quite different funding arrangements each country uses to fund it healthcare I suppose. One of the reasons I voted leave was the hope that pressure would be lifted on our vital public services and avoid the need for the adoption of continental European style insurance based healthcare systems.
Its easier to criticise the NHS when you move and take your taxes with you.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -

It seems that not all is rosy in the French health system.Emergency room doctors and nurses have protested outside the French health ministry amid strikes at dozens of hospitals across the country as medics warned that budget cuts were leading France’s world-class health system to the brink of collapse and putting patients’ lives at risk.

I hadn't actually realised that the German healthcare system is based on a statutory puplic health insurance of at least 14.6% of your salary. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

You'd prefer a Marxist type of government?0 -
mayonnaise endorses Boris.
No idea why anyone would think a failed mayor and a failed foreign secretary would be a good PM, but hey ho...he seems to be popular with the ~100k old fogeys who'll decide our next PM.
Let the one who won the referendum for Leave own the mess they created and let him implode together with the entirety of the nasty party.Don't blame me, I voted Remain.0 -

Pressure from people who come from the EU who are a net contributor to OUR vital public services & not only use them less than UK citizens but also support it directly by working there.
Can't see anything wrong with that argument.mayonnaise wrote: »No idea why anyone would think a failed mayor and a failed foreign secretary would be a good PM, but hey ho...he seems to be popular with the ~100k old fogeys who'll decide our next PM.

To be fair he didn't want to win the leave referendum, he was only doing it to increase his chance to be tory leader. It looks like we're all going to become poor so he gets to live out his dream.
If Boris ends up leader then his reign will be even shorter than Theresa May. He probably won't even last until October 31st. The only way the conservatives will ever get elected again is if they force the ERG and Boris to come clean about all the bare faced lies they've been telling about EU membership.
Unfortunately lies about foreigners messing up OUR country are like crack cocaine to the out of touch xenophobes in their party.0 -

I'm not the sure the 'net contributor' argument stacks up against the issue that 3.6m EU citizens having immediate access to our health, education and welfare systems without prior contribution does not come without pressure is a particularly cogent one.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -

Of course you're not sure, it doesn't meet your bias & admitting it would be hard for you.
The EU citizens who are in the UK as a whole contribute more than they use, of course this isn't true for every individual case. But then UK born children & a lot of adults haven't contributed either, so I don't see where your argument can go without turning into "but it's different because they weren't born here" and accidentally making a xenophobic argument.0
