It is also only a planned operation that is being stopped. No change currently considered in the existing operations.

We are on the cusp of a global shift in manufacturing.
From seeing how long it takes the EU to do anything I think that the UK is much better-placed outside that cumbersome behemoth, where we are able to make our own decisions and could change quickly if necessary.

I agree we are on the cusp for the motor industry. The problem is that the investment decisions of UK based car manufacturers are taking production elsewhere due to the uncertainties of Brexit. If it was just about falling diesel sales they would be moving to UK production of electric cars. But they are just closing UK plants.

Most of our economy is based on services and many of these have been relocating to Amsterdam or Dublin etc. Rents in Dublin are rising sharply and there are major skills shortages. Much of this is due to businesses relocating from the UK.

I do not have a problem if most people in the UK want a declining economy but I doubt this is what most them expected.

It is being reported on Sky that Nissan will soon announce the cancellation of the planned construction of the X Trail in Sunderland.

Model is already built in South Korea by Renault-Samsung (started in 2014).

The model generally has received poor reviews. Not a good seller. Nor does dieselgate help.

I am not stockpiling, but most of the stuff I get is British anyway,

And why would we stock up on water? Perfectly drinkable water comes out of the tap here.

You must be reassured to know that this British water is all processed through plants, pumps, taps, joints and pipes that are also manufactured in the UK?

By the way most of the water consumed in the UK is from imported products that contain water.

I'm certainly not worried about water, we export water.

Japanese carmaker Nissan is set to abandon plans to build the X-Trail model at its Sunderland plant, according to reports.

The company is said to have performed a U-turn on its intention to build the car in the northeast less than two months before Britain is set to leave the European Union, amid increased Brexit uncertainty.

Nissan had previously voiced concerns about Brexit before the company finally committed to build the new Qashqai and X-Trail models in its Sunderland factory in October 2016, four months after the EU referendum.

And from one of the comments on the article, because what's the point in stating the bleeding obvious when someone else already has:

I know this might be hard for people who voted for Brexit but a company like Nissan is in business to make a profit . Brexit will reduce their profits and most likely wipe them out altogether .
Nissan is owned partly by the Japanese and partly by the French firm Renault. Now for all the simple minded people who havn’t realised it yet France is in the EU. The EU has just struck a trade deal with Japan . Therefore the building of the cars in the EU will be without hindrance or tariffs. So why should they invest in the UK which is leaving the largest trading bloc in the world.
Nissan and the other foreign car makers based in the UK will not invest anymore money in Britain they will just run the existing lines down then walk away.
The people of Sunderland will be pleased to see the back of Nissan I’m sure as they voted for Brexit and of course as any Brexiteer will tell you , they knew exactly what they voted for .
I sure as hell don’t understand the local MP , Bridget Phillipson , saying that the news was “Deeply Troubling “. Why?? Bridget, dear lady , it is the “Will of the People “. So if you want to get voted back in at the next G.E. You had better do what your constituents want and help them get rid of Nissan

This isn't silly flag waving and watching Dambusters this is reality. Brexit is going to lose tens of thousands of people their jobs. Possibly 100s of thousands. There is no roadmap for a successful Britain out of the EU from the Brexit camp.

If Brexit turns out to be even half as bad as it is looking, the idiocy of the Brexiteers will not be forgiven.

Christopher Chandler, outspoken advocate for Brexit and founder of Legatum Foundation Limited, an influential pro Brexit think tank has just put his money where his mouth is by buying EU citizsenship via Malta. Which apparently only costs EUR 650,000. A mere trifle and clearly nothing compared to the glittering prize of having nothing to do with the EU, like all the people stuck in Britain who listened to the Brexit lies.

Yep. I'm going to make sure we have at least ten days worth of staples, dried foodstuffs, rice, pasta, tinned tomatoes. flour to make bread. Things that don't take up much space but can keep you going and that you'll use eventually anyway.

We're a couple of headlines away from panic buying at most. Ironically it's the people who put us in this position who will be the ones scooping entire armloads of Pot Noodles and Angel Delight into their shopping trolleys and then fighting eachother for them at the tills.

So many of the most outspoken on Brexit have an exit strategy available to them that the average person in the country simply doesn't.

This includes those with other wealth and overseas assets such as James Dyson, or pro Brexit supporters such as Chloe Westley from the Tax Payers Alliance (who by dint of birth can sod off to Australia if all else goes wrong).

I dont want to hear that no deal is the ideal solution from anyone who has a plan B to go abroad, least of all someone who is at the same time applying for an Irish passport. Smacks of hypocrisy.

Why would you think that produce from the U.K. will not be in short supply? Perhaps you have your own ring fenced source. “Let them eat cake” comes to mind although I prefer brioche.

Your faith in the utilities is touching. Perhaps candles, matches and heating oil should be added to the list.
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.
