  • I wasn't saying it was an android 7 thing at all, I was pointing out that "android do nothing" is a false generalisation.

    That clear ?
Mind you you must have a large knowledge of the ones that don't work
I didn't say that the Moto G4 can't scan QR codes by default. I said that the vast majority of Android phones can't.
I have had 4 Android phones in the past 5 years (one HTC, three OnePlus), and I have used all the versions of Android since 4 and none of them had any camera app able to scan QR codes.
I am using Pie now and I still need to open Google Lens. It doesn't bother me, but to me it's obvious that the scanning facility is not as integrated as is on iPhone.

"Scan this code with your camera to get the offer!"

Iphone user opens the camera app, points the camera to the code, gets the link.

Android user opens the camera app, points the camera to the code, nothing happens.
Just looked at a bunch of codes and none of them mention camera. They just say scan code.....So I guess that would stump an iPhone user....:D
Seriously though, I get what you are saying. I just don't see it as a problem for owners of either to instantly scan QR codes. They have been around forever now and anyone owning a modern mobile and not knowing how to scan them, deserves little sympathy...;)

Well, I think with your camera is implied ;)
Anyway, never said it's a problem, I simply think that if you want to reach as many people as possible for advertising purposes, you also want to get your 'message' to those that know nothing about downloading apps from the store, scanning codes, using Google Lens.
It's much easier to tell someone "Open your camera app and point it to this code, something will come up on your screen", rather than "Oh, it's an Android, let me see if you have the app to scan the code...oh no it looks like you don't...but you could download it from the Play store! I know one that doesn't have many ads on it! Oh, it looks like you don't have an account yet. Would you like to open one?"

Ok, that's obviously exaggerated, but when your 'audience' is big, that does make a difference.

PS I know hundreds of people that have no idea what a QR code is, let alone how to scan it, but I bet you would still appreciate their money if your QR code could reach them :)

Yes, exaggeration seems to have been honed into a fine art in your world...:)
