I'm surprised the supermarkets don't lock customers in when the self service checkouts are getting more change put in them.

The OP says all customers had mental capacity, where were the people who didn't have mental capacity ? Were they with the children, the Nuns and the kittens ?

  • This is not how the issue is considered in law. But thanks for your highly subjective input. I hope you are never locked in a room with a veteran who suffers PTSD.
    *thinks*
I have worked and continue to work with veterans that have been in more explosive situations than locked in a building containing a lot of cash.

And dear, we know about the ones who cone out at breakfast. It is the ones who are missing we care more about.

This is standard practice when moving cash across the banking hall, or they have access to any ATMS or IDM machines. The closure is minimal as soon as the cash or doors are closed the door is opened.

Hopefully this has reassured the OP that there is nothing untoward by this process and distress and inconvenience would have been minimal.

This may have happened to someone else on this site.

I had to prove my identity in Halifax a few months ago. While they were faffing with my passport, they had to move some physical money about which meant locking the doors. I got locked in for around 15 minutes. it was a little bit weird, but there are much bigger things to care about.

Trouble is, Westie, you and I have ideas about what is reasonable but OP has no interest in what we all think. They had already decided that they knew what the bank's procedures should have been and that they already knew it was an act of False Imprisonment. They just wanted someone with appropriate legal knowledge to agree with them and confirm the statute that would enable them to pursue a case.

Quite why anyone (with mental capacity) would imagine that people on a money-saving forum in a sub-section clearly set up to deal with budgeting issues and bank account questions would have such specialist knowledge is beyond me.

It's academic now anyway. Op achieved their objective to stir us all up and is now probably sitting in the bank all day long waiting for it to happen again.

More likely sat in the lobby waiting for Miss Diane.
