It is the first time in my life I have not had an OD and it is so liberating!
There is money in savings to buffer the transition between pay schedules but I would prefer not to use it. I'm hoping to pass my driving test at some point this year and Hubs' car goes back (leased through work before changes in tax law) in the summer so it would be good to have a bit of a deposit for a new car.
We spent a chunk of our childless weekend going around showrooms and narrowing down our options. Car shopping has always been hugely dull to me but now it is 'my' car we are looking at it is suddenly much more interesting. We quickly established that I REALLY don't like the Mini's interior, that I have expensive taste (no surprise there...) and that we will continue to be a one car family at least until the end of the year. We have managed to narrow our short list to 3 hatchbacks and 3 SUVs for Hubs to test drive. Decision will be made based on price/economy/lifestyle once Hubs has had his play time!26.2.19/14.1.19: T MC 3629.26/3629.26 : VM 0% 1050/13876.59 : W 0% 100/1485 = 4409.26/18990.85 =25.17%28.1.19/28.1.19 Hubs 0% £400/£2,977 =13.44%SPC 2019 #073

I think this was your new job week, so I hope it went well Lucifa. If I am wrong about the dates I hope it goes well when you do start :rotfl:
Job hunting here in the Katsu house being affected by Brexit - salaries in my profession significantly down and people delaying hiring. V frustrating but nice weather to be home and hopefully we can get chez Katsu to a good place too.Debt at highest: £8k. Debt Free 31/12/2009. Original MFD May 2036, MF Dec 2018.0 -

One vehicle to seriously consider, if you aren't already, is the Citroen DS3 great car, particularly the diesel version

It is important that we know where we come from, because if you do not know where you come from, then you do not know where you are, and if you don't know where you are, then you don't know where you are going. If you don't know where you're going, you're probably going wrong.

Thanks for checking in folks. The new job is great so far. Not really working at the moment, so much as learning all the new systems and processes and learning about my entities. I am getting impatient to get stuck in though.
On a money front, I thought I was going to get paid this week but it turns out I don't get my first pay until 24 May. If we weren't using YNAB and I hadn't already allocated money to May's bills we would be dipping deep into savings. As it is we are covered for everything except food, fuel and a couple of things the kids need, all of which I can float on the CC and clear when I get paid. When I first read the email I had a moment of panic but a quick look at YNAB soon had me settled down. Happy days
Not much else to report. Hope everyone is keeping well.

Hi Luc,
I'm so glad the new job is going well.
Such amazing progress. Knowing you can rely on your knowledge of your finances to deal with a little bump in the road like a delayed pay day.
I have similar reminders most weeks on my journey things that would have left me anxious and tearful just a year ago I now know that I can just deal with no issue. It is such a relief.

Another of my intermittent absences. Sorry about that.
Time for a quick update:- The new job is fab. Great challenge, strong team and lots of potential for development
- Money management could be better but there have been no train wrecks and I have saved for most of my spends
- We have got rid of a lot of STUFF from the house, though there is more to go
- I still haven't passed my driving test after a brief hiatus in lessons over the summer. There was just so much going on I couldn't string 2 weeks of lessons together. I did however do pretty much all of the driving on our holiday in the Highlands of Scotland which was amazing
All in all I have been mostly well behaved. The change in jobs has left me with less time to post on here but I want to get back to it because it makes me more aware. YNAB is still a great weapon in my money saving arsenal and now Hubs is fully on board it is working really well.
Things that could be better- Still struggling to be consistent making lunch for work
- Need to pick back up with consistent freezer/larder audits and meal planning
- Need to nip top up shops in the bud - we were doing great on this but they have crept back in over the past few weeks
Thanks to anyone who reads this and I hope you are all keeping well.
