If you have only just joined give it time for the line to " stabilise "
When I joined i was getting 59mb. two years later and I was getting 76mb

I'm nowhere near that at 4mb and its been 2 months now

    It's not "promised" it's a "suggested " maximum possible.

The minimum guaranteed speed you can expect from your broadband will be 12Mbps.

Have you been on the cheaper ASDL package before rather than "fibre".
You may find its slightly quicker in your case!

I don't want a cheap er package though, I want a service the same as everyone else and I want them to provide that servie to a rural area not just accept old copper wiring system

How is this speed measured .
By direct connection to the master socket and direct connection via Ethernet cable .
Measuring over wifi does not count .

Use the BT wholesale tool .
Once tested go to further diagnostics .
Run that and it will show your IP profile <post that speed.

Put your phone number into this

and see what it says the speed you should be getting.

If the sped that you are getting is below the handback threshold, then you should be able to leave penalty free.

All testing should be done with a hardwired Ethernet connection and with your router connected to the test port on the master socket.

Thank you for this, yes I see FTTP is not available in my area and they have sold it to me

I suspect they have sold you FTTC (VDSL).

What are the figures for 'Observed Speeds'? Is the column headed ADSL or VDSL?

These figures are the actual sync speed, so this clearly demonstrates that BT are not delivering their claimed speed.

What does it say for VDSL Range A and Range B High and Low speeds at the top of the page? Also, what is the Handback Threshold for both ranges?

Sorry to keep asking these questions, but I'm trying to narrow down where the issue lies.

    OK, that's good.

So how are you measuring the speed? I assume with a hard wired ethernet connection? WiFi can give very bad results, especially if there is local interference.

Just as an aside, does the phone line sound quiet, with no pops or crackles?

Have you tried changing the filter?

Before you go back and complain to BT, you need to make sure that everything is OK at your end.

The low observed speeds does tend to indicate that there is a fault on the Openreach infrastructure.
