So the (banks) advisor didn't know the true position (or deliberately misled you)..
The banks email you quoted clearly states it was Al Rayan's fault.ISA balances were incorrectly reported as standard savings accounts0 -
They checked with their boss and were very clear at the time that it was HMRC’s error and not their’s. As the mistake of uncorrected could have cost me around £150 in 2017-18 I did push them on it.
Anyway it’s done now and hopefully HMRC will correct my tax code etc.0 -
I had an email from HMRC this morning telling me that my tax code had changed. On logging into my Personal Tax Account, it appears the change was due to some under-reporting of interest payments. Unfortunately I cannot now find any details whatsoever in my PTA about the interest amounts reported by the various banks and building societies. This information used to be there but I just cannot find it any longer. Am I going blind? Can anyone else still see it? If so, would you mind listing the exact way you found the info in your PTA?0

I suspect that it will be mayhem until after April 5th, after which the dust may settle. I guess that they may be in such a muddle and over worked issuing P800s for 2017-18, revising codes for the current year (mine has just changed) and issuing codes for next year (awaiting mine) that they have shut things down till that workload is cleared.
It would be helpful if they told us what was happening though!0 -

See previous posts in the last few days.
The previously 'itemised' info for 18/19 (which is 17/18) has now been removed from its previous location and now a single amount appears in a new location.

I hope everybody will be officially complaining to HMRC.

Is the best approach to wait till the start of the new tax year and see what data is displayed and how accurate it is as codes and amounts seem to vary and there is no detailled brakdown to see how they have arrived at the final result. There seem to be totals on the HMRC site which can't be reconciled with interest received.0

Yes it is - and, maybe, well into the new tax year.
I don't think that HMRC will ever be able to reconcile their figures with reality. Remember that their own processing software was recently seriously delinquent until the October of the relevant tax year - and still didn't work in about 70 scenarios even after that.
The current situation is far worse in terms of likely-to-work in that on top of capable software within HMRC it also requires co-ordination between HMRC and all the payers of taxable income.
This co-ordination is one of the major causes of system failures - and will be the nemesis of "the death of the annual tax return" ( (c) HMRC ).0
