Plotting for an early retirement - anyone want to join me?

It's a few days into my financial independence having given up FT work and as expected I don't miss it. So far I've restarted my writing hobby, started to tidy up the house and garden, done a bit more exercise, and had more time to read. It may take longer than expected to get the house ready to be valued but luckily there's no rush.0

sounds good, let us know how you get on0

LOL!
I suspect there are a good few moderately disillusioned old lags of IT in here with that viewpoint!
yep - I am another one. Have been restructured and changed manager 3 times since 1st April. Also had to go through an appeal against a sub standard performance rating - which I won but it was still awful. My new boss at least understands where I am coming from - mostly from things I said before I knew I would be reporting to him!!
I have to stick it to 55 (3 more years) unless they pay me to go away. After 55 I may downshift the job a bit - part time/lower stress/something else.
I have had enough but can't stop yet.
We won't be changing the house for some years - it will be too large but we like it and it is in a good location. We got the heating changed a couple of years ago so we can just switch off the top floor to help with bills.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

I'm also a (now retired) IT lag. I was fortunate to escape the corporate bs at age 40 when I became self-employed. I designed my final system age 50.... a decade ago.
I am delighted that my skills are now commercially out-of-date. The most challenging IT problem I now face is applying maintenance conventions to OH's complicated spreadsheets (he's an FD and just loves his spreadsheets).
Happy days.
Hang on in there. Just focus on freedom day. With hindsight, the reward for suffering all that bs was a very decent DB pension (now transferred into a SIPP at a good multiple).0 -
It's not all bad, is it? Whilst there are lots of recovering and soon to be recovering IT Pros on here, that tells me that this profession is paid well enough to consider retiring early. Something out of reach of many.
I'm also in IT :rotfl:0 -

if you have the good fortune to earn well then you have a choice - spend it now and retire in your 60s or sacrifice now in the hope of an early retirement.
Decisions, decisions.:)0 -
I nearly had a career in IT. I was good at programming a 6502.0
