Thanks. Are you planning to sell up and move too?

No we're happy where we are. We're trying to do work to make it more comfortable for us and to try to age proof it as best we can, also getting general maintenance completed.

Architect due to ring about a loft conversion so Mrs CRV can have a hobby/ sewing room plus dual purpose so it or space in it can be used as a bedroom for guests, shed refurb to worksjhop for me and getting garden sorted- too many large trees blocking the light/ impinging on the house.

Another one here selling up and moving. House is on the market as we speak and I'm not even retired yet. Although I will be in just over a week. :)

Where are you planning to move to? And are you going to miss IT when you've retired?!

    Yep, we are.

We currently own two modest homes to facilitate OH working and me supporting elderly parents - one of whom is severely disabled.

OH will retire April 2021 so the plan is to sell both homes next year and buy something bigger. OH will then rent a small apartment for week days until he retires.

Location-wise we are tied by the need to support parents for the foreseeable but will move area when I am no longer needed.

Not sure I want to post too many details here but nearer family. We have no real ties to where we live now and were only there for work/kids, both of which are not a consideration now. We will probably end up paying similar or even more for a smaller house but that's part of the plant.
I won't miss IT at all....

We will. 5 beds, 3.5 baths, 3 receptions and a study. Last sprog is moving out this month so too big for our needs going forwards, not to mention expensive to run.

    LOL!
I suspect there are a good few moderately disillusioned old lags of IT in here with that viewpoint!

I’m trying to enjoy my last months (years?!), with the very firm view that it has certainly given me an amazing career (travel and ‘networking’ with people I consider good friends), despite the “corporate b*ll**” that is pretty well everywhere now!

I am sure a part of me *will* miss it: I’ve made friends from across the US to Oz and beyond, so whilst a big part of me is more than happy to jump off the treadmill, I will want to keep in touch.....

Wehay, I'm now officially retired from the rat race, although I may look for some PT work. Can't say I'm sad to leave IT!

& congrats on reaching this milestone: enjoy many happy & healthy years ahead!!

Our goal is to maintain the house for the foreseeable: many of our friends have been built up here over ~30 years, the house is how we like it (now with new EV chargepoint to save motoring costs!), we have space for guests and even (one day?!) grandchildren.
I can see us downsizing to a bungalow some day, perhaps 10+ years ahead....but then again, we could shut off the top floor & pretend we are in a bungalow:rotfl:

Well, I retired from the IT world 17 months ago. We spent last year getting our house ready to go on the market and have been selling it for most of this year. Looks like we will be moving in October, a "downsize" move to Somerset, although it turns out the place we are moving to has more floor space and a bigger garden than our current place! However, it is much cheaper and more suited to a retired couple as it is a chalet bungalow.

I'm glad I retired before trying to sell the house because the whole moving thing has been very, very time consuming and rather stressful. Could not have done this while I still had a stressful job as well!

Same here......but OH already pointed out we can get a stair lift if/when needed.....& we *could* remodel the utility room as a bathroom if needed :rotfl:
