Guess I should have introduced myself before answering the quiz.
I love Vegas, went for a weekend in the early 90s, then went in 2012, have been back every year since, sometimes twice. We go to play poker and all the other games, enjoy at least one show per trip and generally relax and spend time in the sun. Hoping to go again at the end of April, still waiting for perfect flight price for 11-14 nights, usually stay on strip and vary hotel depending on comps being offered.
booked my April trip inc flights last year. they are pretty much double now. You might have left it too late for a good deal

There is usually a flash sale or two before April. We’ve been lucky to get good flight prices only a few days before our preferred flight date before.
  • thanks for your replies, we normally only book a short time in advance, any time I've been super organised we have had to cancel.

    Car Hire:
As pebbles said, you pick from a row :) (Avis, Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty, Alamo, National, Enterprise, Budget) - I not rented from Fox, or Firefly, or Nu rentals, or Sixt , so cant comment on those....

In short: Book the car your least happy with, goto the desk (if you have to), say hi and all that, just say NO to everything else which stops the up sell (just the word 'No' is a closed statement! ;) ) ....

When you get to the garage, and you see an attendant, keep a $10 or $20 folded up in your hand, and ask if he/she can work some magic to put you in something bigger or faster, and say you got a 20 handshake (or 10 if you booked the smallest car and want to upgrade to an intermediate car) if he/she can make it happen..

Wont cost you a $ if they cant do nothing, and if they do work some magic, ask them to sign your paperwork so u can get out of the garage....

I do it everytime, saying goes, if u don't ask, u don't get!!
Either way, you get to pick from the row of cars for the size u booked, and if the row is empty, they let u pick from the next row up (without cost)

If we had photobucket still, I would upload the photo of the cars I booked vs what I drove out in over the past 8 years! :D

StuieUK34, Thank you might try it but I think I would be too embarrassed. We are with Avis and I have just joined Avis Preferred so I think we can skip the desk.
We have a week in Orlando after so might try it there as well if I can pluck up the courage....
  • See below - hope this is readable when it posts!

[*]If there was only one restaurant you could go to on your trip, which would it be and why? Wynn buffet - because it's delish (but I want a line pass too).

[*]What's your favourite slot machine? Cats.

[*]Where's the one cool place you go, that you think many people don't know about? Gaetano's in Henderson (if that counts as a cool place - if not it would be my second choice for restaurant after Wynn)

[*]Is there one place you'll visit every trip? Green Valley Ranch

[*]Where's the best place to grab a drink/coffee and people watch? AmeriCAN at the Linq promenade

[*]What US-only produce/goodies do you buy to bring home? Wyler's light pink lemonade - but just sometimes.

[*]What do you usually stock up on from CVS/Walgreens? Nothing other than maybe soft drinks or water.

[*]What's your favourite free thing to do? Bellagio fountains

[*]Where are the best shopping bargains to be had? TJ Maxx or South outlets.

[*]What's the one show you'd gladly see again as it's so great? Penn and Teller

Don’t be embarrassed. They will probably never see you again and if they do, they won’t remember or care. Go for it!

Question for anyone who gets comped rooms every year.

We have been going for a lot of years now, and we never even had a sniff of a comp until last year.
We used a 2 night comp at MGM, and a comped room at Orleans...must be gambling a little more.

Anyway, we don’t go until October this year, so any offers won’t show for some months.
But looking at my Mlife account today shows that there is offers for comped rooms on most MGM properties...nothing for the top ones though...obviously still don’t gamble enough for those.

Anyway, say that later in the year we have similar comps offered i.e. multiple hotels...can we use free rooms in more than one hotel per trip ?

I seem to think I remember something about 72 hours between comped stays. If that is the case, does that mean we can use a comped room at say Mirage, pay for a stay elsewhere for a few days, then use another comped room at say Luxor ?
