I want to run my FireStick through a VPN, and I suppose browse on the laptop. I use mozilla and have a homehub.
What would be the best way?
I use pia0 -
So why do I need a VPN?
Privacy? How private is it?
Security? What's it securing? (Doesn't everyone run a firewall?)
Disguising where you are? Okay - I get that, but not too bothered about that.
Doesn't the VPN provider know all about your web activity? Don't they store this for future potential enquiries?
Hope to get a few answers on the above.0 -

Privacy? How private is it?Instead of going through your ISP, your browsing sessions will go through a VPN provider, which will be your 'proxy' and open the websites 'on your behalf'. Your ISP won't be able to see what you are doing (the websites you are accessing), but your VPN provider will. So, in a way, is as private as not using anything. The connection between the VPN server and the end server (for example, your bank) will be exactly the same but it will originate from the VPN server instead of your computer.
Security? What's it securing? (Doesn't everyone run a firewall?) It's not securing anything. The connection between the end device (let's say your bank's website) and the VPN opening it on your behalf will not be any more secure than it already is when you open the website yourself from your computer with no VPN
Disguising where you are? Okay - I get that, but not too bothered about that. Some website allow access only from certain locations (TV providers for example)
Doesn't the VPN provider know all about your web activity? Don't they store this for future potential enquiries?Yes and no. They know exactly what you are doing, but apparently people trust more these VPN providers from countries like Panama than their own ISP. Some of them claim that they don't keep 'logs', but that's highly unlikely (you can never be 100% log-free on the internet)

You should never go for a free VPN tbh. Go for a cheap one instead but always go for paid ones0
