How do I "run" the VPN? Pretend I'm thick....

Three ways (using Nord as an example):

    1. Set your router to use the VPN so all your internet goes through the same VPN connection. You basically login to your router's admin and set the credentials.

    2. Download the app for Windows, Mac, Android or iOS and install that. That takes care of everything for you and is very easy.

    3. Use a Chrome or Firefox extension. This is like the app but only your browser traffic uses the VPN.

Using the router option is more basic but covers all devices. Nord lets you have up to six connections at a time per account so this only uses one of your connections.

At work I need a dedicated IP for various reasons so the browser extension works better for me. Otherwise, it's really down to your preference. If you're wanting minimal setup and presuming you are not running Linux, Windows Mobile or Blackberry I'd get the apps.

I'm guessing as I did the conversion in my head but the prices shown are ex. 20% VAT.

    In $ it is going to be (2.99 * 36) * 1.2 = $129.17 for three years.

It's $129.06. If you go to the order page they work it out for you.

Not likely. You can set up a personal VPN but not to access paid services. You're probably looking at routers that can be modified to run Open DD-WRT firmware.

I want to run my FireStick through a VPN, and I suppose browse on the laptop. I use mozilla and have a homehub.

What would be the best way?

Going back to the original post by Mark Rice asking how much a VPN should cost I was obviously under the misapprehension you could buy one for about £25 for a year subscription. I would not want to be tied into a 3 year contract although I am aware this is the cheapest option There are several free VPN advertised but maybe they would be no use on an Amazon fire Stick. I was told that there is one on Tunnel Bear that is free but is probably very limited.

They have been proven to log and pass customer data on to third parties.

I don't use VPNs for anything illegal but that doesn't mean I don't want them to repect my privacy. Lest you say you have nothing to hide:

“Arguing that you don't care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don't care about free speech because you have nothing to say.”
