O/S Daily Friday 4th January

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

  • Good morning and thanks Bella, for starting. It seems cold and dry here at the moment.

Glad you enjoyed your holiday Nelski, now back to reality.

We took the tree down yesterday, now everything is down and put away, the place looks bare
I went to the library, my books were due back, and I was glad to get out of the house for a while.
Not much happening today, there'll be a couple of friends round tonight and that's it really

    Hope Holly is ok.

    Morning everyone

bellabella - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

holly - hope op went well and you're now in recovery x

DH up and gone to work stupid early, he's taken DS2 with him today, DS1 now getting ready for work also.

Pitch black and cold here, think we've had a frost.

Dinner last night was braised pork steaks, mash, veg/LO veg, gravy, mince pies, xmas cake for dessert. Tonight will be something and chips, so nothing too technical, I may have LO veg curry.

Yesterday I was reasonably productive, although still not up to date with jobs I want to be. The xmas decs did get taken down and duster and hoover had a quick wipe round. I did several wash loads, some then in the TD and some drying on the airer, will continue with this today as want to get to the bottom of the dirty wash basket at some point today.

First thing I'll be going to the SM - we don't need loads, but do need some fresh bits so hoping I can get away with a cheaper shop this morning, although nothings' cheap so it seems. I will just keep plodding on and get as much done as possible.

I'm working again tomorrow so need to get things done today.

DH and myself are going out tomorrow night to one of DH's work colleagues who lives in the next village, haven't really met them before but DH gets on very well with him, so hoping it'll be a good night.

    Keep safe and well x

Morning all, it is getting colder but at least the daylight is lasting a little bit longer each day. I'm not noticing much of a hang in the morning but the afternoons seem longer and this is great, helps me to look forward to spring.

I had a strange night, very patchy sleep and I contemplated getting up at 2.30 but decided that was just going to mean that I woukd spend most of the day Yawning. I stayed in bed and dozed off and on for a bit, finally got up at 5.30 so I must be more rested.

No interesting plans but I might go for a walk at least. After the Friday Tidy that us, and then I'll carry on with the trauma teddies.

Right now I'm thinking central heating thoughts but I try to hold out until mid-morning unless the temperatures are so low that bits of me become numb.

I would like curry this evening, nice and warming. I'll see how OH and DS feel before doing anything about it though.

Sending love to Holly and thinking of all those who are struggling with things at present.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • morning folks and thanks BELLA. Usual rubbish night for me but we won't dwell on that. Yet again we have escaped a frosty start.

I must do a dust and vac all round this morning, plus steam clean the kitchen and bathroom floors. The place has been so neglected over the Xmas/NY period. I ache all over and feel as though I have been kicked but I am hoping it will wear off with a bit of activity.

After lunch I am off on a little jaunt in the Dales with DB and SIL. They bought me some gorgeous slipper boots for Xmas from an exclusive shop up there - in a size 5/6!! They are like barges on me! How has he got to 69 without knowing his big sister takes a 3!! That's the usual observant man for you!

Once the slippers have been changed they say we will make time for coffee and a cake before heading home. Looking forward to that - as if I haven't eaten enough sweet stuff already!

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Hope all went as well as it could for HOLLY and that TAFF's results were as good as they could be. POPPY how are you? Take care all. Another coffee for me then I'll get myself moving. xx

Brrr cold and frosty here and we are in for a very cold day I think but its Friday :jthere is wine in the fridge already !!

Our new TD is coming today the old one has had a fault for ages where is keeps cutting out but the motor is still trying t turn the drum, you cant leave it and if it does this you turn it off and leave if for a while and then turn it back on, when it did this the other day I opened the door and the back was glowing hot :eek:like it might catch fire !! so we have decided not to use it anymore and got a new one, better safe than sorry !!!

TA I was thinking of you yesterday, have you thought about getting a little dog ? it would be company for you and would get you out for a walk each day, there are plenty who need homes, please forgive me if im speaking out of turn, im just thinking out loud really xx

Spag bol or chili tonight will see what we fancy, OH has a streaming cold so might do a chilli to try and ward off the germs.

Right better get on have good days all xx

    Morning :hello:

    Hope you're OK Holly xx

Welcome back Nels and Speky :D

There's a lovely thick frost this morning. The bedrooms are quite warm but downstairs is freezing so I've turned the heating up high for an hour. I'll probably be moaning the house is too hot soon :D

I'm going to bring some food in from the shed freezer and fill the kitchen freezer, I'm still aiming for the shed one being emptied, defrosted and cleaned but I'm beginning to think this is wishful thinking, lol.

Scamp will be shivering when we go out, even with his coat on. He has hardly any fur on his tummy and that's the one bit his coat doesn't cover, lol. I'll take him for a couple of short walks today instead of one long one, then see what the weather's like for his evening walk. He's usually off lead and playing on one of his walks but I can't see that happening today.

It doesn't feel as cold here this morning, no frost so that's a bonus. I've just cleaned the hob on the cooker, it looks much better now with all the little bits scrubbed, it got a bit neglected over the festive period. Cleaning the oven is for another day!

I went for a walk into our little town yesterday, got some new library books and a couple of bits and bobs including a new pair of nail scissors, no idea where mine have gone. Also paid a visit to Aldi to get some fresh veg, enjoyed a stir fry for my tea.

Visited friends yesterday afternoon and went for a walk with them, they live on a farm and have to take the working dogs out. It was good fun but I smelt of dog when I got home so everything is in the wash including my coat, just need to get that dry now!

Hugs to the poorlies, you've a great attitude taff, keep going. dp1, how's your DD? Let us know how you're doing poppy.
Enjoy your day out TA, sounds fun.

Have a good Friday, take care. XX
