Storm Hannah was really bl**dy noisy round this way. DD's room has a roof window in and her room was, of course, the noisiest of them all! She was awake at 4am as she was scared by the noise and she would not re settle, so we were all zombies on Saturday.

The garden was mostly OK. It does get windy in there, but one side is the garage wall, another is a brick wall, so there are only two sides that are fence panels. So, I think we get off lightly compared to some of our neighbours.

That said, the biggest tomato plant had two of it's leaf stems broken by the wind. Thank fully was otherwise OK. One of the pea plants got snapped half way down. Thankfully already had a secondary shoot coming up, so hopefully will be OK. The other pea plant, and the bean plant survived unscathed. The cucumber and courgette seedlings did not fair so well, and have gone to great compost heap in the sky. Luckily I still had some extra seedlings of both in trays that escaped unharmed.

All other plants looked a bit windswept, but were otherwise OK.

Re spring onions - I sowed some indoors, they sprung up, but quickly became leggy and flopped over. I had sowed some outdoors directly also, and nothing appeared to be happening. So, I planted the indoor seedlings outside and they have perked up.....and then the other seeds germinated! hahaha I don't get it, but they seem to be growing happily now. *shrugs*

My pepper plants were indoors, but have come on great guns and I no longer have the space for them indoors, so I have put them outside. I'm not sure how they'll do out there, but fingers crossed.

One of my chilli plants has taken off and is loving it's windowsill position in the kitchen. The other looks like a surly teenager who's been dragged along to a distant family member's wedding. It does NOT look happy. Still, I shan't give up hope on it just yet!

Hope the chemo goes as well as it can do Unrecordings!

One good thing about being behind for the millionth year running on the plot, I had no plants in the ground to get battered by winds LOL

Went up Monday. Managed to dig out a pathway between two of my beds to make the plot look slightly nicer. Then I went out trying to dig out a piece of membrane that end up at one point being under about 1ft of dirt on top, with bindweed on top and below it! I ended up in such a bad mood with it, and the plot in general.

I still need to get my bean teepee strung together, squashes in and loads of other jobs. Hoping I can get up there tomorrow, come rain or shine.

Thanks for the heads up unrecordings! Not predicting frost here, but lows of 4 and 5 (so could still drop to frost levels). Will keep an eye on it and cover plants again if needed.

unrecordings, that post from the newbee follows the format (dots between words) of some of the bot-generated spam posts I have seen. I hope I am being ungenerous - the account was set up on 1st May so maybe I am just jaundiced!

In seed news, I moved all the trays of ungerminated sweet corn into the airing cupboard (it is big enough to have a gnu airer in it - so almost a room for this cottage) and in two days all the trays have some germinated seedlings. It is so thrilling! Lots of runner beans germinating too but no courgettes or butternut squash and only two cucumbers - I really fear the mice have scoffed them - I was wondering where the blossom was getting in there but I fear they were seed husks.

Other than that I am navvying (shamelessly plagiarises Karmacat's description of my gardening and hers) :)

I keep finding caches of bulb husks in the workshop - they had my Oca, but thankfully the half eaten remanents have germinated. Courgettes have just started popping up here.Just back from the hospita and need a cup of tea, so I'm going to sally forth tomorrow and check on progress - I also need to get my beans underway

I describe my style of gardening as Gonzo, after the great Hunter S Thompson - I just make it up as I go along
