I am planning to get out in the garden today but just plodding as I feel strange, disoriented.
Anyway seeds in propogaters are doing well except strawberries, but there's lots of other growth too so there must've been something in the compost. Really annoying.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
I hope you took it easy today Jazee. I have had a bug for the last few days and I keep trying to do too much and then feeling dizzy and regretting it.
Strange things strawberry seeds. I have tried to grow them a couple of times before and never had any success although people tell me they are easy to grow. On both occasions I followed the instructions fully so not sure why.
Anyway I bought a load of strawberry plants this year but had also bought the kids a couple of strawberry grow kits in the sale. They just threw them in a pot, didn't cover or use heat, either forgot to water them or flooded them and the damn things are flourishing!!0 -
CAFCGirl I have the same with one of my small trays of chilli. They are not dying but just not doing anything and haven't done for weeks. All my other chillis and peppers have come on nicely so not sure why as haven't done anything different.0

I fear mine just aren't getting enough light, it all still feels somewhat low light levels here so even in the lightest spot in the house, it's still not enough for them. I might just but a couple of plants later in the season from the farmers market which is what I did last year at 99p a plant.
Stuck some cucamelon seeds in earlier and my cabbage seeds have come up which makes up for a lack of doing much else LOL Stuck my okra seeds in to soak overnight tooWealth is not measured by currency0 -
I have realised that light makes such a difference. This year with my tomatoes I have had them out in the greenhouse everyday and then brought them in each night. It has been a faff but they look so much healthier than any I have grown before. Far less leggy and more robust looking.
In previous years I have grown them on a windowsill until they go out and stay out.0 -
In the end today I just did a little weeding and dead heading in the garden. Only spent half an hour out there. Needed to save my energy for the village litter pick which went well. Fortunately my foggy head cleared.Spend less now, work less later.0

Finally got my carrots in today - yay for me. I'll be celebrating with pizza and a cheeky Slovenian Red
Also got on top of tidying the workshop - everything is now super neat (apart from the potting bench)
Learning to pace myself now as well - regular tea breaks
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -

Just internet information so might be tripe, but I read that the hotter the chilli the longer it takes to germinate. I can't confirm this as my Scotch bonnets came through at the same rate as Habaneros but there may be something in it!Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

Me too. It really is a faff as you say and next year I promise myself to have insulated my greenhouse and installed the heating unit which I already have, so that I can just germinate inside the house and then grow on outside. Also with things like Okra I will grow little and often as they grow very leggy very quickly without strong light. Tonight my seedlings are in cardboard boxes covered with fleece and a king sized duvet. They will be warmer than me!Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

Germination in a week of a difficult species suggests fresh seed from ripe pods ie good quality. Commercial seeds of a Capsicum chinense, C. pubescens and C. baccatum often take many weeks.0
