You sound very organised Euronorris! I am glad your DD is feeling better. I do like the sound of your self watering system.
I think you are right about the cucumber. I am still bringing mine in at night as our greenhouse isn't the best insulated. I am hoping they wont grow too massive before I can leave them out. I might end up re-sowing myself.0 -
I am absolutely shattered! lolFebruary wins: Theatre tickets0

I finally planted some seeds today. Outside - red onion, carrots, sprouts and lettuce. In propagators indoors - two types of tomato, two types of cucumer, melon and strawberries.
I'll let you know if leaving it so late has been a good or bad idea when I know!Spend less now, work less later.0 -
Been jealous of what you've all been up to. I'll finally be out & about today, got a lot to do this week if possible: making up another batch of potting compost, sorting out the tubs of stuff for a nice bonfire, sowing wild flowers, burning off weed seeds in the usual areas, sowing carrots. And some repotting - to wit a question - can peppers (padron but I have some bells as well) be buried deep in pots like you would do with leggy tomatoes ?
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -
Do chillies respond in the same way if theyve got a bit leggy, as tomatoes do? I fear the few of mine that have appeared have got too tall so I was debating sinking them but not sure if I'll just lose them completely?
In other news, I'm ill so my plans for the 2 days I have child wrangling are completely nose diving. However next week I should have even more days available so I'm going to hold out on the hopes of getting plenty done then and spending this week killing off germs instead of bindweed.
Beans, tomatoes and cucumbers are putting in an appearance. Still not built the mini greenhouse but I did absolutely decimate the overgrown bay tree. Taken it right back to hopefully regrow it in the lovely topiary shape it started as. Think the neighbour is happy for the extra light but sad about no more bay available over the fence LOL
Had a right go over the whole back garden, splitting out grape hyacinth bulbs from a planter and spreading them throughout the bed, same with the daffs too - completely wrong time of year to do it im sure, cleared the dead growth on the fushcia we have and cut back the japonica too. The bed seems very clear and tidy now. Possibly going to put in something ground dwelling for when the daffs go, but not got a clue what will work in a shady border.....
In separate news, I have the OK to site bees on the plot, so thats next years goal.Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
I have not had a problem with peppers and chillies getting leggy (because they have rarely germinated for me before this year) so I did some hunting around and found an article that says you treat them like tomatoes - plant them deep up to the first set of leaves and it will promote root growth too.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
