Quick update on the Monarda (Bergamot) position. The garden centre of choice (albeit the furthest from home) rang to say they have some now and are keeping three pots aside for me so thank you unrecordings, but I am sorted.
I also picked courgettes yesterday - 2 good sized green ones (15cm) and the rest (2 green, four yellow) were smaller but picked in the belief it will stimulate the plants to produce more, higher up, and bigger ones. Also more beetroot - delicious, loads of potatoes (due to blight), peas, lettuce, spinach and radishes.
All my redcurrants and gooseberries are picked (I need to concentrate on making new gooseberry plants and might try growing another redcurrant from a cutting) and even some rhubarb and raspberries. I weeded the corn/roots bed and the squash bed and trained in the new growth (back inside the rabbit fencing), tied the cucumbers to their willow arch and tied in all the tomatoes.
The blackcurrents are for picking today, and we have another tray of leeks from our neighbour to plant out. We will also be cutting grass (that is the royal we - it is a DH job) and trimming hedges - lots of them. I will be digging out dead and dying rosemary, where the beetle has won.
Has anyone moved a large Bay (bush, rather than tree) before? Advice welcomed pleaseSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Just got up. Looks like it's rained a bit overnight, everywhere still wet so that will save on the watering today. I have a busy day ahead but will try to do dead heading and weeding.Spend less now, work less later.0

There's a lovely thin thread of rain working its way across from the East over Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield (and Sc-un-thorpe) - very welcome. Also means I'm forced to rest which is probably a good thing (though forced rest generally means ebay, which is a very very bad thing). Might manage a little deadheading later this afternoon legs permitting
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -
I had thought I only had teeny courgettes so far this year. Then I was watering first thing this morning and found a whopper hiding under a giant leaf. 20cm long, 6cm diameter. There are a good few on the plants as well, that look like they will ripen in the next few days.
I think I still have some of last year's courgette chutney! I too remember foisting the wretched things on anyone who'd stay still long enough to accept them.
I also planted far too much chard and kale, I'm pig sick of eating the stuff. Ah well!0 -
That's the trouble with courgettes. They are too well camouflaged and we,ve all had the situation where we look on Saturday and find nothing then look again on Sunday and find a stonking big marrow which is too big to do anything with :rotfl:0

I finally had a few male flowers before I went away (on my courgette plant) and think the only female at the time got pollinated, but she dont look very big yet. But again, I'm about to have all female flowers and no males *sigh*
I can finally see tomatoes forming!!! Wooo!!!!!February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
Planted out my follow up french beans, bit of watering but fitted in trip to cinema!
Up the plot tomorrow, general tidy up and weeding. They aren't too bad but keep on top of them.
New potatoes to dig tomorrow for Sunday lunch! Might replant a few in bags to see if I can get some for ChristmasNo.79 save £12k in 2020. Total end May £11610

Going to give myself a treat this morning - the local garden center has just put a banner up saying 'SALE'. Last year they had seeds at 50p a packet. They open in 2 mins so must get going0

Not much gardening done here this weekend apart from watering, I could really do with some rain!
Tomatoes flowering nicely, runner beans at the top of their supports and flowering, my blauhilde are starting to climb their poles and a lovely female pumpkin flower opened yesterday. Unfortunately there were no males... Typical.May Grocery Challenge -£216/4000 -
Not much up the plot today, pruned (hacked back!) the red robin hedges at home.
Picked a thimble lettuce and another lot of new potatoes and mint of course
Drop of rain overnight but not enough to make a difference. Watering again tonight.No.79 save £12k in 2020. Total end May £11610
