Well done on the ebay sales and that is a good sum to have in your treats pot :T.

Don't be hard on yourself for not wanting to rummage in a shed outdoors on a freezing day. I wouldn't fancy it either. That seems like a job for the spring or the summer and there will be other table top sales coming up.

Thank you for understanding about the shed situation:T. There certainly will be better days to do it and the money I make from any sales and the freeing up of space will be a great incentive. I made a note of the phone number of the Table Top Sale organizer and gave her a ring last night to check when the next sale is. It's on the last Saturday in February and she's put me down as a definite booking for a table. I'll make sure I'm all ready for that one. No excuses!

It still leaves the problem of going out there and helping OH clear his shed though. The problem there is a roof which is leaking and sagging. It needs fixing NOW:eek:. It definitely wouldn't survive a heavy covering of snow like we had last year. I think that's what caused the damage in the first place. Do you remember the former Chancellor, George Osborne, forever going on about fixing the roof while the sun is shining? His metaphorical roof was economy-related whereas OH's roof is a real one:(. OH would normally clear the shed and fix the roof himself in no time without needing any help from me, he can turn his hand to most types of repair work but his thumb (X-rayed and heavily strapped up in A&E) is scuppering everything. He hates not being able to do things and is definitely not a stoic.. He's embarrassed and incredibly annoyed that something as small as a thumb is causing so many problems and affecting so many areas of his life. This is a very big shed, crammed to the rafters with all manner of whatever OH thought worthy of storing (aka 'junk'). It's only the contents which are keeping the roof from collapsing IMO:rotfl:

He's even gone so far as to break the habit of a lifetime and book a local handyman to do the repair and re-roofing. The man is reliable with a reputation for quality workmanship. Most of all he's not expensive which matters a great deal to OH;). Not surprisingly he gets booked up quickly and only has a little time next week when he can come here to do the shed. I keep telling OH to phone him and see if he can come for a few more hours to help with the shed clearing but I'm wasting my time and OH is having none of it. All he says is ''I'm not wasting money paying for something we can easily do ourselves for nothing''. Hmmm!

Good luck with the shed. Hope the weather is kind to you....and the handyman:rotfl:

I agree the American elections almost seem more interesting than our own...shades of West Wing, which was my favourite TV drama ever.

Thank you. Another massive West Wing fan here:T

In the late '70s there was an American TV mini series called Washington Behind Closed Doors, a drama based on a book by someone involved in happenings during the Nixon administration. Can't remember who it was and I've read the book:o. It was my favourite political drama ever and I recorded every minute of it on videotape. I don't usually watch things more than once but there are rare exceptions and that was one of them. I find the Nixon years and the whole Watergate saga endlessly fascinating. How sad am I?:o. I think it was repeated in recent years but I missed it:mad:

I'd like to watch it again but sadly we no longer have any equipment to play video tapes on:(. I once picked one up on Freecycle but it didn't work properly and I was worried about it damaging my tapes:eek:. Might try to track down another one. It's surprising what people are trying to dispose of on Freecycle:j.

It comes to us all, I'm afraid! And opposable thumbs are our kind of signature as human beings, they're quite a big deal :D

Hmmm indeed! I think you need to insist on a quid pro quo there, CBC! :p

Ooh, love it that I am not the only West Wing fan. on here then. Have all of them on DVD and watched them soooo many times. Actually it must be time to start again...:rotfl: Doesn't matter how many times we watch them though, there are still parts that make me cry, even when I know what is happening.... the episode where they are talking to the crew man on the ship in the hurricane, so moving. Also the more you watch it over and over, the more you find yourself saying...."I didn't notice that before". There are so many great moments in it though, I can't decide on my favourite. Jed stubbing out his cigarette on the cathedral floor and his great speech to God.....or the scene where the reporter asks if he is going to run again and he sticks his hands in his pockets and Leo says..."watch this...". Or when he has to hand over power and Walkin says..."you're relieved Mr President". It is all amazingly well written and acted and I still think its the best thing I have ever watched on TV. Sam was my favourite and I was gutted when he left. Although I quite liked Will after a while. CJ was brilliant and I loved the interaction between Donna and Josh. OMG...I definitely need to start watching it again now after all that. :rotfl:

Sounds as if you could go on Mastermind with The West Wing as your specialist subject:beer:

Yes. they are, KC:T. I try to make light of his situation because he can grumble for England but I am sympathetic towards his plight. What's worse is that it's his left thumb and he's left-handed so even basic activities like using a pen or a knife and fork can cause a lot of inconvenience and frustration for someone who's usually so dextrous.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Well I must confess to being something of a nerd when it comes to WW. We have watched it so many times that I do feel I know a lot of the dialogue before it is spoken...lol.
But wouldn't it be great if real life politics was like that and if there such great speech writers as Toby and Sam?

    If only!!!!

Hordes of people who currently find politics such a 'turn off' would become avid fans overnight:rotfl:
