I would say that it is easier and more guaranteed a fix to reinstall Windows...0 -
Not so important now you decided to do a clean install but the error tends to indicate the upgrade can't properly identify the OS Partition, so its failing before it does much at all. I vaguely recall there was a known issue with this sometime in the past. Probably worth checking the right partition is set active.0

Ah... you've jogged my memory.
I had a problem with a dual boot machine (Linux/Win7) where I'd been crazy enough to set the "boot" flag on the boot partition.
I had major problems with certain Windows Updates not completing. I (eventually) set the boot flag on the Windows system partition instead, and the system still booted fine, and the updates completed without error.
Worth a try...0 -
Thanks, have made sure the parition is set to active following a tutorial. Now instead I get an error message that saysWindows can't be installed because this PC has an unsupported disk layout for UEFI firmware."
Im not sure if its a good or bad thing that im getting a new error instead now or not?
I have backed everything up now, so if i have to do a fresh install then I will, i'd just rather now if I could avoid0 -
